Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Union?

What are the chances of retail reps unionizing? I would to be honest. It's obvious these quotas and arbitrary metrics are being designed to create turnover. Why pay a severance for store closure when you can reduce headcount through attrition?

Im in South Florida Retail and I believe we should definitely unionize. Our DM is the worst micro manager I have ever had in my life, no charisma with myself or any other reps during visits, and clearly suffers from little man syndrome. By far the most shady District Manager in the company with a strong track record of trotting in the grey when it came to 0% usage of HUM at his previous store.

Hard to believe there are so many stores in the hot seat when you have a DM who claims to have strong business acumen. It definitely pays for him to look the other way when your leading a hotbed of fraud, shady tactics, and lack of integrity.
Red flags all over the place when it comes to certain results particularly VHI. How can you not see all the red flags? Well you do see them - you just don’t ask any questions, and champion the results.
Last time he texted me about my numbers I ignored him, isn’t it your job to manage your managers and let them Manage their managers and so on and so forth. I feel bad for my managers who have to deal with the constant badgering.

From what I read is that AT&T union dues are like 1.3% of bi-weekly pay according to the CWA. Google it. All the reps that Verizon hired during & after the pandemic when we switched to group commission are gonna need it. Some of those reps barely had any sales experience or individual commission experience. Now Verizon is gonna basically coach out those reps thanks to individual commission, and the elevate sales process.

Union is not going to help you with your quota or the store quota. Check with the union stores. It will buy you some time when you get PIP it that is about it. Do your homework.

I think departments should start unionizing! We have tons of employees in Ohio that make Big Red a lot of money after GTS puts in their half azzd code changes. Our new union should get a bounty on every problem we fix that recovers money!

I started in retail at VZW 20 years ago. Today I earn $200k and just received a 6% bump. The difference between us is that I put my head down, worked hard and still work incredibly hard and long hours, and I continually improve my skills. You guys believe a union is the answer, or that Verizon owes you something, or that you’re so great and Verizon is lucky to have you. If you’re so great start your own Wireless business, or leave Verizon and let the free market decide your fate and salary. Verizon provides an opportunity, but what you do with it is up-to-you! I read these posts frequently and I’m constantly amused by all the negativity around the retail store operational process. Retail is where you’re supposed to start. From there you’re supposed to broaden your skills and apply out into others areas of the company. But most of you will never do that because that requires hard work and perseverance. Where as bi--hing and complaining is so much easier. Good luck.

What's the point? Retail is being phased to agents all over. Outsourced just like everything else except C suite. That will just speed up your location becoming an agent partner site.

You should call for a vote to unionize just to watch upper management scramble in panic. They'll send in a bunch of union busters to talk to you one on one to intimate and give you all the obvious lies about what a union could do for you. Best part is if they fire you then you can sue and make a nice paycheck. I don't trust CWA but at this point, it's all out of spite for Hans.

Honestly as much as I do not trust CWA. The next time I get a union message, I might just sign it just so the bean counters get rustled and start wasting money on anti union messaging.

There are very few stores that have unionized from what I’ve seen online.

I’m sure the CWA would love to help and here is a link to a success story.

You can find many more links looking in google for “verizon retail union” to see other articles before you decide to pursue that path.

Attrition is definitely the word for it currently. Micromanagement is rampant due to goals not being hit. Everything changes when managers don't make their checks. I say we need to take a cold hard look at our leadership in stores currently.
