Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

If you were cut recently

How is the job search going? I know a couple of folks who've been looking for over two months and claim they still can't get a decent offer. Is that everybody's experience or have others been able to find something good? I'm just generally curious about the state of the job market in our field.

Teammates gone from my area are doing fine - those that are trying (and don’t require full remote) are finding jobs in less than 6 weeks. Destinations: First Citizens, Synovus, Visa, US Bank, Regions, Invesco

Finding out TFC is not respected in the industry.

It's not going well. I even applied internally to a few positions, all rejected (and for one position, they didn't even notify me. I had to dig around and find out myself).

I'm curious to know where people are going outside of the banking industry. We all have transferable skills but the algorithms can't parse that.

Many banks are doing the same as SunTruist in reducing head count. Having said that, just like SunTruist they have openings they are filling. The hardest part no matter your skill set is getting your resume and yourself in front of the right people. Just submitting applications and your resume won’t get it done, you have to have an in to these other financial institutions. That is the key to getting employed. Work the network you have hopefully built with current and former colleagues. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help as it is your best chance to get in front of the right person to enhance your ability to get a new job and you will also need some patience. Other financial institutions are hiring but they are being selective. Don’t delude yourself into thinking you going to find fully remote opportunities either. They do exist but they are the exception and typically for unique skill sets. Everyone thinks they have unique skills but the majority of you do not.

Believe them. It’s rough, even to get an interview—particularly if you are over 50 years old. Be prepared for a long search if you don’t have a sales position. Start looking now. Severance will not be as much as you think.
