Gets rid of one of the roadblocks to a Cigna merger...
I wonder if Cigna and Humana are still considering some type of a merger or perhaps a Cigna takeover. Since they have sold their MA business and Humana only has MA business and no commercial, no this seems like a potential merger that would be a “balance” and allowed and would NOT be considered a monopoly. PLUS with all the latest news, Humana is probably on sale right now for a discounted rate making it a worthwhile purchase.
Cigna is trying to dodge the MA car wreck Human drove into. Plus Cigna's main revenue is from the commercial and employer side. They also have a strong individual/Obamacare business as well as pharmacy benefits (see Humana? That's what diversification can do your you...give you options so you don't tank your business model/revenue). MA has never been their strong suit. They bought into the MA side by purchasing HealthSpring in 2011 but it never really took off.
The plot thickens.
