Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Is it only me feeling that way Or....

Is it only me feeling that most decisions in higher ups are made not based on facts or knowledge but based on polictics and depending on who wants to avoid confrontation with whom or who wants to actually frame and stab the other person! I often get asked to provide technical inputs and make designs about sophisticated process but my manager and her managers show zero interest in the knowledge I try to communicate. Even when backing up the idea with facts and scientific research, it still falls on dead ears and they immediately shut it down and go a complete opposite direction. Six month later, things are not working very well and manager is out to find someone to blame it on all them!!!! ... Such practices lead to poor decisions one after the other and just cause more frustration....How do you handle this to cover your basis? My manager asks me how should be do something as an expert. I tell her and the next thing I hear from her is to immediately shut down the idea and decide to go another direction. Six month later the department is in deep water and she is trying to blame it on all me... Like I told you not to do this and you did not listen... What you want from me now!!!!!!

The thing is that yes per manager request we can fake numbers and fabricate BS but a few months later down the road and when the entire process is on fire, if they audit or look for someone to blame it on, then the manager who initially asked you to fake numbers, is the first to throw you under the bus. It is very very sickening ....

It is odd the same group of people are always getting promoted and they always happen to be bo--y lickers of the person above them. hmm. I have worked for corporations before and Nike is the the first I have seen with such insecure, green leaders.

The uniqueness of the storytelling is probably why they ended up in this mess. I know others who falsified data too. Nike is not great at math and you sure as he-l can't throw in fake numbers to make it work. It will catch up to you.

Welcome to working in a corporation. Ego, emotion, backstabbing, bias and selfish motivation are more often than not going to heavily influence all decisions. That's because humans are making the decisions. This is true to varying degrees in every sector, every employer, every country. If you haven't learned how to be liked as a non confrontational, keep your head down, yes person then you'll want to quickly figure that out asap or you will absolutely become the scapegoat for someone else's bad decisions. Literally just last week I was asked to calculate some numbers which I did using sound data sources and logical processes but when the reality of the data didn't look good I was told to force fake numbers into the data to make the leaders look better. It totally infuriated me but I know there's nothing I can do other than say yes sir, will do! Fake numbers it is! Whatever makes you happy! That's the life at Nike but I hear the same from my former colleagues at other companies in totally different sectors.

How to cover our basis is important.... disagreeing with manager results in their resentment! Nike is a yes sir institute.
Reaching to higher ups also makes your manager feels threatened!
