Hello, I am not in the U.S. or Sales but here is my story. After 33.5 years and still a few years from retirement I was terminated "without cause" prior to Christmas. No explanation other than it wasn't anything I did or performance related. 3 days later they were advertising online for my position. What kind of company would do this to a person?

I’m sorry, but people are nuts if they think the severance is worth sticking around for! Hahaha! Take control of your life and move on! The writing is on the wall!! If you think super territories are a good work/life balance than stick around, it will only get “better” for you. Otherwise take your experience and hard work ethic to a better place that actually does have respect for their employees! That shipped sailed at Mondelez!
The first time there was a cleanup in the cookie aisle was 1996. Many of us were there 20+ years. Everyone was talking about a Lawsuits. Nothing ever came of it. I had 5 weeks of vacation, car, and earned around $68k my last year (1996) . Keep in mind you could buy a home for under 200k back then.
I'd like to know what the "very respectful severance package " is? I've always been told it's a weeks pay, capped at 26 weeks, that's it. I don't call that respectful at all. Yeah, there's a 401K and pension for people that started when all that was available, but since the pension ended accruement in 2019, there are plenty of people that have a low pension amount for retirement. So IDK? Maybe your retirement and severance was good because of when you started, but there are many people that have worked here for years that will not fair as well as you make it sound.
Absolutely!! If more people stood up for themselves it would be amazing to see!
I will add if everyone who was over 50/40 with 25/20+ yrs service got together in a “class action,” lawsuit, this might be fruitful. However, I’ guessing, it would have to stem from someone who recently got laid off & doesn’t sign severance package to trigger the lawsuit. Then lawyers could contact those laid off in the last 2-3 yrs to join. I don’t know, but the stories reading here do have some bases to explore this option???
I’m glad things worked out for you, but companies need to be held accountable! Mondelez has a track record of not so honorable treatment of employees. For every one that has had this experience and posts about it, there are hundreds of others that have as well. While some choose to just move forward, I commend those who work for justice.
There are plenty of great places to work, unfortunately for many Mondelez isn’t one! I for one am glad to hear someone push back. Likely the organization doesn’t change their way of doing things, but for the poster, getting some vindication on top of what they earned, sure feels good!
For those who say sue, for age discrimination , don’t realize, there has to be a pattern of proof. Mondelez posts position & age of employees getting laid off in restructuring times. So unless one can “prove” and that proof has to be documented via comments made to their performance & age, or in general even, where referencing their age was mentioned as a narrative, it’s an up hill battle. 33.5 years, of service is commendable, I had 35 and was laid off a year ago. Honestly, in my scenario & state live in, while anxiety & a stunning adjustment, after 35yrs, best thing to happen. Grant it, those of us with this kind of years served, comes with pension & 401k and a very respectful severance package. For me, I own 95% of home, no debt, paid cash for 2022 SUV with 941 miles on it upon turning in company car. I am now in unrelated field where I am an LLC while also being an hourly PT employee for same owner of business, I am an LLC to. I’m going to collect my SS right at 62 too.!!! I’m not rich, by any means, but I made decisions throughout my career with this company, which somehow, has allowed me to be “content”….at least for now. For this I feel extremely lucky, to have gotten to work at one job for 35 yrs. Gen Z & Millennials, I don’t know what society expects your generation to do as seriously the generation before mine, really eff’d up, your generation, purely for greed. I hope you all vote!
That’s good!! They will settle! Performance reviews are good to have! String it out, you’ll get more!
Everytime they do these restructures they get rid of the people that have been around awhile. They don't care about experience or how good you are they just want someone to do the job cheaper.
All over it but early stages.
Age discrimination all over it! They can hire a younger replacement and pay them Pennie’s on the dollar. I hope you talk to someone in regards!! In the US you are protected if you are over 40 from age discrimination, and it’s easier to prove than you may realize! They also settle and very rarely let these cases go to trial, cause they will lose! Squeaky wheel gets the grease!!
Possibly. Not sure how that benefits the company though. They still have to pay me my pension when the time comes. I think someone new and a few levels above me didn't like me and despite my years of excellent service he was allowed to fire me. Pretty sh---y if you ask me. I understand now why younger generations have zero loyalty to companys.
Being a few years from retirement… there’s your answer
