Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I figured out their play!

I just commented this, but wanted to make it its own post for more eyes.

Here's their plan. Remember, Stankey said in a town hall he wanted to lay off the old people and keep/hire new people, and they never released that recording.

So - Forced relocation layoffs. Most of the people that won't move, will be older people who have 13+ years, which means they qualify for the full severance. They know this.
They also know, younger people who won't get much severance will lie and say they'll move.

Then they get rid of all the people that said no, (i.e. mostly older people), and the younger people left, they'll simply just say "Oh no, we've lost too much talent, we'll have to cancel the forced relocation, everyone can stay where they are"
and TA DA!! Stankey's illegal age based layoffs - FULFILLED

I doubt this is true.
They did this mandatory move to Dallas bc they know most people will not move. Years ago, one point in time when there was more than east and west, East was forced to move around if you wanted to be promoted. BUT the majority of employees have been comfortable for decades and moving is out the question.
I work in Dallas FYI
This keeps them away from playoff headlines.
But if you aren’t the little people it doesn’t pertain to you.
VP of Business actually lives in Atlanta. Hope you don’t think Stanky actually lives here full time or is even here most of the time. I know LOTS of leadership that do not live here.
Is that fair?
force moves but no relocation. It’s nuts.

My kids are near the age they want and I can tell you, they would not do this job. I’m not sure their friends would either. It’s not that it’s bad it just not in line with their interests.

You actually read that on this site. Then you forgot about and remembered it, but mistakenly thought you had the idea yourself.

he looked directly at some interns and told them directly that he didn't expect them to be working for AT&T after five years

And he should expect that. The age of lifers is over. My kids change jobs like socks, and there's no stigma, it's expected. Back in the day you didn't do that. "What's wrong with you?"

The question is how do you run a business without long term expertise, particularly in a large company that is highly scrutinized for "equity" where every high dollar outside hire you make is a potential lawsuit from a lower paid incumbent of the right gender or color? Which as they recently saw, is a lawsuit they can lose.

OP's theory is supported by fact that RTO swept through senior level, long-tenured, highly paid staff mostly over 50 years old. Anyone who's remote has a headcount at their "location" of exactly one, so ADEA anti-age discrimination rules do not apply.

Sharp move for the cash flow, but not so good for quality of product or growing business revenue.

Don’t forget how many jobs are moving to Accenture and being off shored. Has to be several thousand.

I remember one town-hall that he looked directly at some interns and told them directly that he didn't expect them to be working for AT&T after five years. That they should expect to move on to another company.

The vision they have for AT&T is to automate everything and the stuff they can not automate they will outsource. They also are out to eliminate the union and all outside plant operations will be contracted.

Yep. Afterward they will fill the gaps with H1B visa holders so they can treat them like slaves or get them deported.
