Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Legg's big lie on relocation mandates

He claims they could just lay everyone off at any time instead of going through this dance of trying to get people to quit. If that's the case, then he should put his money where his mouth is and DO IT.

You know why I think they won't do it? Because they have a history of not wanting to pay severance and are always looking for ways to weasel out of it.

Many of us have not forgotten what happened with IBM. Those employees were given two choices:

  1. Accept your contract with IBM. After a year, you will not have a job.
  2. Decline your contract with IBM. You will not receive severance because you declined a job transfer.

There was no option for severance and no option to transfer to a different job within the company.

They weren't contractors either. These were senior AT&T employees working on domestic projects.

Take anything Legg says with a grain of salt.

Just because you don’t like hearing the corporate direction, it doesn’t mean it’s a lie.

Yep, the relo stuff is total sc-m bag move. They know it, he knows and if he doesn’t, he is an id--t. It is most probable he knows

Stop the whining about going back to the office. The terms of employment have changed for many. Adapt or seek employment elsewhere.

Ok, I'll seek employment elsewhere while drawing a paycheck, and I will draw those paychecks after giving John Stankey levels of value to the company. He is my mentor.
Thank you for your sage advice.

I cannot believe why anyone would not see this. This is AT&T with a very dangerous amount of debt. Does any one think that any one in the "C" suite would remain employed if they were ethical? You need to pull our head out of the sand and understand the "Good" people we are working for....

Legg is the biggest rat of them all. When I was still at T, last spring, there was a Q&A town hall type thing with Legg. I will never forget this, and I've told this story before... People were, of course, asking RTO and Relo related questions.

One of them was to Legg directly:

"Mr. Legg, are you going to relocate to Dallas too?"

And his answer was, and I quote:

"I will be there, when I'm needed."

At that moment, I knew I will be out that year. And I was. And I'm doing just fine.

Think about that answer he gave. Of course, he will not be moving his family to Dallas. It's not fair to ask to move his kids to different schools. It's not fair to ask his wife to potentially quit her job. For all of them to leave their friends and family behind. Not fair. It's not for his family. It's for the rest of us, plebs.

Legg is what we call a " yes man " in the business world. He says yes to anything the CEO wants.

Do not show up or log in the next time any of the executives has a town hall. They have nothing to say that you like to hear. They iignore you and what you have to say. You should just ignore them and what they have to say.

but aren't they paying severance to people who's job moved but they refused to follow?

They're hoping those not at Rule of 75 find a new job prior to the severance payout. He also claimed it's not a layoff and they want the same # of employees just at the 4 hubs. I highly doubt it, but time will tell.

That seems to be the current scenario. They don’t want to pay severance. Too expensive.
