One toxic family, where leaders exploit and retaliate against their employees. One great big team as long as you dont say or ask for anything. Keep your head down. Due the least amount possible. You will fit in then.

Looks like the whining is slowing down. I truly hope it is people realizing this place isn’t that bad, it’s just a little bad. We are one family. One team on fight. We have to keep the lights on or no one else will. Be here now! Every day. It’s a great day to be a great AEP employee!

I'm exhausted from all the changes the past few years and more changes are coming or are in flux depending on who is in political offices and which buddy hires their buddy next. So many changes! And all the C suite executives and directors talk about is the score card. How inspiring is that to their paycheck to paycheck work force? Since Bill took over, all we hear every single day is about the stock prices, board members and executives' goals and really, other than safety, how do we on the ground affect the stock? Success or failure is on the executives' shoulders, the decisions they make. Its exhausting to constantly be graded by things that are so high above our pay grades. The culture at the lower 2/3 pay grades has declined greatly. They say they're bringing back the long term jobs from contractors - just so they can lay off again? Someone, please explain, why would new people want to work here now?

It does not just have to be CEOs. Look at AEP. Hom many employees have been put into
Leadership positions without havint the qualification, but instead are friends, family or lover.

Have you heard about CEOs getting compensated by multiple companies while being the CEO at one company? They join the corporate boards of their buddies' companies and get paid to vote each other bigger compensation packages each year. The optima of crony capitalism.

@2aa8 agree. Lump sum/annuity has nothing to do with medical as far as I am aware. Everyone needs to do their own research/talk w benefits rather than take advice from this forum..

I'm not sure taking the lump sum stops a spouse from having medical coverage in the event the AEP spouse dies first. I would need to see it in black and white because I couldn't find it in the AEP benefits page.

If I have my points for medical, that's separate from the medical benefits as medical benefits are paid from a checking account not from the annuity.

I think you're wrong in this case

@2a8r I seem to remember referral bonuses in 2018 or 2019. About $1000 or $1500. Maybe it was just certain business units.

@2a8m I've been here for a while and this is the first I've ever heard of a referral bonus. Looks like ol Billy boy is having a hard time finding new employees after driving everyone away.

Are the new Employee Referral Bonuses something new because AEP is struggling to find talent or have they been a thing for a while?

@2a4f and the other guy, true but there are other options that appear to be cheaper. Right now I pay almost $800 a month between Medicare and AEP for medical and dental. Not cheap.
My wife has her own medical coverage from her company that will take over when I pass. It's really a decision that has to be made in a personal basis and not every situation is the same. In our case, we took the lump sum since she's fully covered by her company when I go. If she does before me, the cost just goes down a bit.
It really just depends but I don't like the fact that's it's an all or nothing as it seems it benefits the company and not the employee.

@2a39 If you take a lump sum when you retire and take AEP medical for self and spouse if u die after retirement ur spouse will not be able to continue with AEP medical since there is not survivor annuity.

@2a33 it's a Cash Balance pension and there is only one deposit each year unless you retire and then HR will calculate your final deposit on a prorated basis. The deposit is made up of the previous year's interest and your cash deposit for the previous year's employment.
In Oct/Nov the company will send out an email as to what the interest rate will be for the coming year and what it will be if you retire and take the annuity.
Don't take the annuity, if you die earlier than expected, the company keeps the balance. Take the lump sum when you retire.

@294w Water in sink, toilet, shower drains probably evaporated because no one has run water in them for so long. No water allows sewer gases to come up through drains' dry traps. Don't smoke in bathrooms. Methane is flammable.

@29er Should I come back? 😭
No way will I come back after training my replacement in 2020, AEP can kiss my a$$. I know the systems and could come up to speed in less than a few weeks to support the same systems when I left.
AEP will try to go on a hiring binge to get people but I doubt TCS will provide the same level of training they received when they took over. TCS will want to get out the door as soon as possible.
Most of the contractors were subpar technical wise but you get what you paid for.

@29f6, If you're aware it's off-topic, perhaps it's better to start a new topic on the main board instead of posting it here. It’s really simple, you’re just one step away: just scroll to the top and hit the big blue "American Electric Power Co. Inc. layoffs" link, which will take you to the main board.

Also thought the town hall today was weird given timing. But I am curious about the 1RP modernization. Many parts of the building are in rough shape. Building has almost no amenities. Makes in office work even more dreadful

There's a current town hall with the new Transmission President in 1RP. Not sure about any secret town hall with Bill in the Fortress of Doom.

The financial waste of retaining 1RP with so few employees working within its walls is enough mismanagement and fiscal incompetence to throw a rate case in favor of consumers. The sale of that property could pay for a lot of distribution right of ways to be cut from the substation to the end of the line enormously enhancing storm assessment and restoration times, reliability and reduce overtime and injuries. In 2024, the average sale price for office space in Columbus was $96.17 per square foot. A national trend, and also noticeable in Columbus, is the shrinking average lease sizes on new deals as tenants consolidate space.

People saying there’s a Town Hall tomorrow at 1RP…yeah. These are plants to see who reads here. Don’t ask people you know or they’ll know you read here and you will be a bullseye. Unless you want to go and have other means to provide for yourself and your family, just leave it alone. Bilbo doesn’t do jack without recording it and parading it across the wires. BF is hot at Arizona desert rocks this site and Glassdoor exist, and he’s looking for the leaks. Don’t be one.
