Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Can an employee volunteer to be layed off?

Say someone is 60 years old, suddenly disillusioned with Nike, and would like to fly away on a golden parachute. Can such a person volunteer to be layed off? If so, how soon?

The fact that you are 60 at Nike tells me you have some solid connections. You prolly safe.

The separation package is not as strong as the severance but it is still more than just walking away. I had to fight for it after being offered a bs lateral move and was told I could take the job or walk with nothing. (this is part where you go over your manager, even though they will get pi---d, cause they’ve already stopped fighting for you.) I did get one in the end after I pushed it up the chain a few levels which made me a complete mess in the process. Just don’t assume they will hand out a severance because you ask for it. I’d recommend waiting until you find out if you’re getting laid off first. Then ask for a separation agreement if you are offered a role you can’t stomach.

That age with long tenure - definitely on the list.

You can express an interest. However at 60 you are probably on the list anyways so stay cool and collect the money.

Yes, and it depends on the team. Given the upcoming layoffs they can volunteer absolutely.don’t think that will save someone else though.

You can take a voluntary separation package if offered. Otherwise, you can quit.
