Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

R&A

I have seen some people frequently get R&A's from their regular job such as answering a phone call, sharing a little knowledge, all during office hours. but why I was not given any even I do the work during night time or week end to help those asking for urgent help.

what a broken and inconsistent process!!!!

I’ve never seen a supervisor turn down an R&A of any amount. I haven’t used my $50 ones but have given out nearly $5K in $250 and $500 R&As to folks this year just by making the extra effort of filling out the form.

Broken and meaningless. End R&As and the problem is solved.

Strategies for R&As: 1) Use up your no-approval-necessary R&As by year-end. Otherwise, senior management gets the money in bigger bonuses. 2) Give "awards" to those you are going to ask for PMP input, so you get favorable reviews (common practice among CTC people). 3) Give "awards" to your circle of friends, so they in turn give you "awards". Line up 10 or more friends, and you get a cool $500 just in time for Christmas. Strange how Chevron has condoned these practices for decades.

I give most of my R&As to support staff: $50 means more to them than for another well compensated petrotech.

I was told by a colleague who got a lot of R&A that it is necessary to ask for R&A if you have helped someone on something...

A bunch of horizons would trade near the end of the year. If you don’t share it’s d-mb it doesn’t cost and usually helps for pmp to.

I save up my entire R&A “allotment” for the year, then recognize one single person near year-end. I just handed out a justified and well earned $500 R&A. It’s the maximum I’m allowed to give with my supervisor’s approval. I think this kind of recognition promotes the right incentive for which the R&A program was intended for.

They need to seriously increase these though. Haven't they been $25 and $50 for the past like 17-18 years? $50 in 2006 is worth only about $30 now. Even less now that it's taxable.

they need to increase to $50 and $100 respectivly.

Try to use them all up. It’s a small way to show appreciation to coworkers. It’s not like the money is coming out of your own pocket. I love getting them because I always have something on my Amazon wishlist that I don’t particularly need, but I can justify if I have a gift card.

I don’t send out the $25s though. Those seem passive aggressive to me.

Try giving them to others you work with to recognize an achievement, you might be surprised how often it is reciprocated (maybe not right away, but over time). Also after a big team effort be the one to go to your direct report and suggest a group award. At the end of the day $50 is not much, but the thought counts for a lot more.

Often times it is a group of friends giving it to each other, especially by the year-end.

sometime unspoken rules... even you did the same thing as another has done, he may get one but you will not.... that is life,
