Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Don't get pulled into the drama, is my best advice.

Keep your head down and continue your work and be productive. I care about so many of you and I've been through this before. Just don't engage the drama. Stay far away from it. If you're truly a hard worker, likely you'll be safe. If not, well about time.

Also, Pk needs to stop riding around in his golf cart acting like he's a celebrity and waving at people he doesn't even know or care about. Enough PK. You are the voice of this current disaster and we know it.

Another point of advice? Pray. Voices in numbers makes a difference. Prayer is real.

OP- it’s you! You’re the problem it’s you! Your post is exactly what’s wrong with Nike- passive milktoast BS. Good, hardworking, dedicated people are losing their livelihoods due to active mismanagement. It has nothing to do with anyone’s gods.
It has everything to do with incompetence and ignorance at middle and senior levels. People with attitudes like yours are THE PROBLEM

To @bwz - this is sometimes the case, other times I've seen them single out certain individuals who were already acting up or didn't care anymore. I'd say its 50/50 - 50% targeted, 50% - we have to hit a threshold and your ticket got drawn.

How the game is at a large company.

You should pray that the VP’s that run this company get held accountable for the mess they made.

OP: If the layoff hammer ever comes being a hard worker has nothing to do with it. I’m not being cynical. That’s just reality. Layoffs are almost never personal and almost never made based on performance. In fact the person who “picks” you for layoff most likely won’t have any idea who you are. These decisions are made higher up and transmitted down.

How do I know this? Over the years three people I’ve managed were let go. With two of those people I heard about it two hours before they did. With one person I heard the night before. In none of those cases did I have any chance to appeal or say “Please, not this person.” The decisions were already made and final by the time I learned about them.

One of the biggest misconceptions about layoffs at large companies is that those layoffs have anything to do with you as a person and employee. They just don’t. Might work that way at smaller companies but at Nike-sized companies it’s a cold and hard numbers exercise.

PK is a celebrity. PK is the only reason we have jobs.

This is typical advice from Nike middle management because they don’t know what’s going on and are not able to support their people
