Charlie’s Corner

Every time time I open Teamworks and see “Should I be liked or respected? Both.” in Charlie’s corner, all I hear in my head is Michael Scott saying “would I rather be feared or loved? Both. I want people to fear how much the love me.”

Does Charlie want us all the like how much we respect him??? And does he think liking someone and respecting someone are usually mutually exclusive? should I not like someone I respect?? And vice versa??

Bet Charlie doesn’t even pass out candy on Halloween, looks at trick or treaters as peasants

This whole company seems to run on fear of the next higher dog in the pack. I have had 2 managers openly admit the were afraid to call their manager and report an issue to him/her (for example a deployment that went sideways and required a rollback or that a project was not going to complete on time). I often sense intimidation from my manager.

No one likes or respects you, Charlie. That’s the problem. Leaders don’t have to be liked per see, but we should be able to respect direction and vision. Unfortunately, what we have is a guy that BS’s his way through life with corporate buzzwords and “synergy” while really not saying anything or offering a vision that adds value to the organization as a whole. There’s nothing innovative about how he’s steering a rutterless ship off the map. He owns every decision he’s made since coming onboard. There’s no scapegoat except for the one looking at him in the mirror.

I wonder if he's disappointed that it's "neither" in his case. FHY.
