Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I'm looking forward to returning and you should be too!

Returning to the office, from my perspective as an employee, is a welcomed change. It means reuniting with my colleagues, which I've missed during remote work. Those face-to-face interactions can't be replaced, fostering a stronger sense of camaraderie and teamwork. Having a designated workspace at the office helps me concentrate better, reducing the distractions of home. It's also an opportunity for spontaneous discussions and quicker problem-solving. I'm looking forward to the chance to grow professionally through mentorship and networking. Plus, the office allows me to create a clear separation between work and personal life, ensuring a healthier work-life balance.

I do the same. I go in Monday through Wednesday. I leave my laptop and COU cellphone at the desk both nights. Don’t look for me after 4.

The best part of RTO is that I leave my laptop at work many nights and work less since I have no access to their decrepit systems when I get home.

Also, dummy, you don't have a designated workspace in the office. First come, first serve and you get your a-s in early or your sitting in the cafeteria or in the bathroom.

Designated workspace ... wtf.

WTF, jerkface. Most of us have been back since July. Go F yourself with your "looking forward to ..."

If you're so looking forward to all that bullsh-t, why the fu-k didn't you start back in July like the rest of us?

Go fu-k yourself.

I know some with a November RTO date

It must be hard to see when you have you head shoved up somewhere the sun doesn’t shine. Give a reach around while you’re down there.

I rather WFH and take care of my personal business on company time. Sleep in, Costco run, work on the house.

This is hysterical and must have been posted by some corporate yes person. My experience of return to work is a bunch of people going in to have coffee and gossip instead of real work. If you cannot work anywhere and still connect with people that is a you problem. Being face to face is more of a distraction as well as all the noise sitting in an office trying to work with Karen’s getting into your business. Maybe your post will get you a nice bonus, I hear those are going around lol

Everyone I know is still at home. Some do come in (very few) but only 3 days a week. The rest are 3 days a month. Only the union folks are RTO 5 days a week. I am not in Dallas or Atlanta.

I went in today but since nobody uses the reservation system there were no seats so I just went home. This isn't RTO, it's RT-some arbitrary office we're overloading 150%. It's bull poopy.

You can tell this was a paid troll or bot since everyone has already RTO’d. Very few enjoy being in the office, especially under the current structure of no assigned desks, no f2f meetings because everyone is still spread out or are offshore. There is no collaboration. Total waste of time to sit in an office on teams calls all day and speak with NO ONE and I’m in a main hub. Waste of 3 hours per day commute, plus gas, plus extra getting ready just to sit at a desk in an office building with cr-ppy equipment. I could do my job better from home.

When I go in, I sign out an office with a door. I close it and don’t speak to another person all day. That’s how I prefer it.

You all know that it's the same, pathetic, sad, loser that does all of these contrarian posts right? The same smelly obese guy that does this over and over again, because he gets some kind of a perverse thrill on getting a reaction from you.

Ignore him.

The key phrase from the OP is “designated work space”. If designated means any available space on the 2nd floor, then I disagree. If you want me in the office then I deserve a permanent space from which to work.

For me some of those points are valid. I do miss the days when our entire group would meet at HQ, usually once per year, for a week of togetherness. It was valuable for bonding and making friends.

That went away over a decade ago, and since then I have taken pains to establish personal rapport with the far-flung people I work with in my group. (And they would remain far-flung had I chosen to "follow the work", as only one or two regular contacts work in the hub I had been assigned to.  Others are in India—are those colleagues coming to an American hub for "collaboration"? You know the answer.)

I'd like to work less (and soon I will be, thanks to RTO!), but the fact is the work needs to be done, 80% of the people in the meetings I attend couldn't do it, so I make up their slack and enjoy Connection Awards and a nice salary. Sure, you might see me at the wholesale club one afternoon, but I'm also pretty sure I won't see 𝒚𝙤𝒖 working at 10 pm.

If an employee is distracted at home, that's the employee's problem. I get more done off hours because i'm not constantly interrupted by Teams messages, and I could only imagine that would be worse sitting in a noisy open office. If an employee needs an office environment to feel productive, by all means follow the work there. For those of us who matured past that need, we will be moving on.

And "matured" is the key word here. RTO isn't about productivity, but rather pushing out expensive senior talent, many of whom are carrying pensions. These employees could claim age discrimination had the work "not moved to a hub." What moved wasn't the work. What moved was the financial landscape of real estate towers and towering debt. And who better to address that than the very guys who got us into this mess?

There is a lot of truth to this. Unfortunately the company made teams that are fractured all over the country. I guess that’s why they want us all in Dallas together.

I find that hilarious, especially to see executives talk about the value of the "water cooler talk" and how valuable it is. Even though I was a "management" employee, the atmosphere was always "stay busy, track your time in the ticketing system" ...
