Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

These WFRs - are different.

The farewell messages hitting my inbox last week and this morning are unlike past rounds. Not just the Quantity - but the Quality. The amount of talent leaving is unbelievable, it will leave a huge gap for the company.

Whatchoo talkin' bout, willis? HPE has dumped great talent year after year after year... They believe firmly in Jack Welch approach. I think you've been able to back stab others to stick around for however long you have, but now that most of the workforce has been turned over you are seeing your kingdom crumbling without allies. Better learn to start speaking Hindi or Spanish, if you care about working for HPE much longer.

The channel won't pick up the revenue damage. Management thinks they can roll out a portal based support system with offshore call centers to support all of channel/distribution and has completely gutted all sales and presales support for them. They also believe they can force the channel into a "drink by the glass" Greenlake model rather than anything transactional. Maybe a good strategy to run in parallel, but they are taking a 90 degree turn at high speed with a brick wall in front. Long term strategy by those at the high levels is to sell off the company piecemeal as they continue to take bonuses for perceived increased profits thru WFR's as the company sinks. Then selling off the divisions like Aruba to Cisco, compute to IBM, spinning off Cray again, etc. allows them to walk away with even more millions. They don't just not care about the employees, they don't care about the company either.

Fist of all I dont work for HPE I work for Dell and we are waiting on a WFR which is being expected after quarter end and into Q1 of next year.
Looking at threads on this site it looks very similar to how staff at Dell feel.
Online first, cheap college grads and push through channel partners.

You should have realized long ago that Senior management doesn't care about the employees. Their only focus is making sure they hit their KPI's and trigger all those lucrative bonuses while you are out on the street. It's the new HPE Way

This is going on across the industry and never ends. I work at WDC and got a call from HPE for a job. Sadly I view HPE as a better company since they are profitable and growing in some areas. They are behind but need to change quicker.

Sad to say OP, but you hit the nail on the head. Between the WFR, Wall Street down guidance, and failure to have a strategy that beats and/or partners with the hyper-scalers, this round shows the writing on the wall.

There is still legacy business that can we can continue to fulfill, and the current execs can retire in comfort. But the future? The legacy business, including more than HPE, but Dell, Lenovo, IBM, etc. we are going to go extinct.

As one of the impacted, I wish they had done an early retirement offers. I’m on the younger side and don’t qualify, but I have both hardware and services sales experience and am set to leave this Friday

Shortsighted greed. Senior execs don't really care about layoffs because they are bonused on profitability. Less people reduces the amount of $ going out, so the amount of $ coming in looks better and they can hit their bonus metrics, for now at least. And don't believe HPE when they say that Channel Partners are going to fill the vacuum, 90% of HPE channel partners are do-nothing middlemen just taking orders after HPE does all the heavy lifting - the vast majority of the time HPE is bringing them deals, not the other way around. Good luck to those brave souls who are left, your workload is about to quadruple, but your pay will remain stagnant.

Apparently there has been lots of pushback on this latest round but the senior management don't seem to care, they want people gone and don't care who they are.

I agree, this is heartbreaking. Sadly, they will likely backfill in a low cost area or with a new college graduate to meet some type of metric. Neither have the knowledge that is being lost. Way to go HPE.
