Thread regarding TransUnion layoffs

Be careful and don’t lose your severance package

Please be careful before your separation date. You are still on the payroll until that date. So some actions like starting a new job before the separation date could put your severance pay at risk. Plus, while highly unlikely, you could be recalled to work any time before the separation date.

Probably best to consult an attorney on the language in the package but as I’ve read it, there is nothing in it that says you would lose your severance if you start a new job before the separation date. Just if you were to get rehired by TU. Of course as OP states they could call you back and that’s something you’d have to figure out how to navigate at any new job, but as long as you can make yourself available if needed I don’t think they can ding you for starting a new job before the separation date. But again, best to talk to a lawyer if in doubt.

And if you do get a new job before the separation date, DO NOT announce it on LinkedIn or anywhere else until at least the separation date passes.

This is good advice and I’ve been thinking about that. But since they shut our access off the day of the RIF which I assume is for security reasons, they’d have to turn that back on if they called us back and that would be really awkward. Not saying it can’t or hasn’t ever happened, but if they wanted us gone so bad they should figure out how to deal with it.

A friend that is still at TU called me yesterday and told me the same thing.
