Thread regarding Capital One layoffs

You know what I realized?

I'm no longer as worried about layoffs as I once was. Part of me is now low-key excited about the prospect of being let go. While I like my work, CapOne has done everything in its power to make it unnecessarily harder and less appealing. What does it say about a company if some of its employees feel like being laid off would be a relief?

Totally agree. I feel like it might be a blessing in disguise. Some of my coworkers and I have been living in fear for the past 9 months and that’s no way to live! As long as I get a severance, I’ll survive. Looking forward to being less stressed all the time! So sad that it has come to this. I used to love this company.

Totally agree! I got my PIP today and it’s like the weight of the pressure has fallen off of.
I’m excited about my new opportunities. I refuse to stay in any relationship personal or professional that abuses me. I’m too old for the games and it appears that the culture has moved to a place of fear and no matter what you do it’s never enough to satisfy a manager who wants you out.

It's not about getting let go but the harassment that leads up to getting fired. Now they're putting people on coaching plans and PIPs with exaggerated reviews done to meer stack ranking quotas. So if you are put on a PIP which is a threat to fire you. You now have to go to bat for yourself and fight for a severance and to get unemployment insurance. The latter is the tough part so it you are targeted go down like a mad dog with rabies because you have nothing to lose.

Being layed off was not how I expected to leave... but now that I am working somewhere else even though the pay and benefits are not the same. I am no longer worried and stressed about cross calibrations at mid year and year end. I don't have to worry about nepotism and biases and that is a big relief. There is life after Capital One.

Took a lateral move to a competitor recently. Hard to understate how much my life has improved after leaving toxic CapOne environment. Do not miss competing with my peers. Nice to focus on doing good work instead of the selling and self promotion demanded by the horrible performance management process.
Hopefully it will be a similar relief for you when you leave, regardless of whose choice it is.

Exactly my thoughts. I gave up a long time ago on letting this place control my life. It is a just a paycheck, not my life. I used to want to give my all but over the years I have realized that I should be trying to take as much as I can from this place rather than give everything. While they still seem to want me for now, they are getting so much less than they could have. It is just my way of thanking them for the culture.
