I like how the message implies that those with unimportant roles can work from home but obviously if they aren't important roles, those are the ones getting cut.

Wait, so you want to be essential now, but didn't want to be during covid when those same essential workers were required in office? Read up on the designations..
Sorry but this is not how it was worded. It said “essential onsite” meaning if you are required to be onsite to do your job, like the mailroom.
There is no perfect or truly nice way to get laid off, no winners, but keeping employees at home tommorow yet notifying today for HR meet tomorrow prevents the 'cardboard box walk of shame' in front of co-workers. It also helps lessens that chance of that one crazy person going postal in the office.
Essential means those answering phones, having a necessary office presence for BAU activity. Likely nothing to do with perception of employee value for those requested to stay home who can.
i don’t understand the wisdom in letting people stew OVERNIGHT and possibly storming an office in the morning, filled with righteous rage.
As greedy as TU is these days I am shocked Mr. CuckWright didn't order all people into the office to save a few bucks on shipping laptops back to 555 W Adams....
