Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Got locked out of the Staples system this AM

I tried logging into Staples system this AM ( 28 Nov 2023) but got locked out. Is this an IT issue? Hope they did not fire me silently overnight.

Anyone else facing this issue?

Does anyone think the call centers will be up and running before the end of the week? Or is that an unreasonable expectation

So I was told they can see orders now but not everything is up and running I'm assuming they wanted the FC to be able to get things running first then everything else would follow who really knows because I'm hearing so much different things

Retail orders are being picked via various work arounds. No reason to panic on the store side. Biggest impact is to corporate and internet(FC) as far as I can tell. It i will take them days to catch up.

I am not saying there is a breach because I have no idea but if it is there is a reason they are so quiet. first you don't want the hackers to know what your current actions are. They could be watching and you don't want them to know what you know. Second these things are like roots. You have to find every tentacle of bad code or you start right back at square one when you turn things back on. Third there is a lot of legal stuff that has to happen with lawyers and the feds. They're going to want to investigate it. Fourth if this is ransomware of some type you either have to crack the encryption or negotiate to pay the hacker.

I am hoping someone just unplugged the wrong cable or a server melted down or something or even better this is a Microsoft issue but if not that could be the reason why they are so quiet.

Still unable to access any systems. Was advised the next update would be 3pm est. Hoping everything is back up soon. This will put everything severally behind. Customer service, sales, reso teams and chat are all down on the SBA side. I read another comment that retail is down. Also FC’s are not pulling any orders past monday per info from my direct manager from sales.

Hearing there's a chance it won't be rebuilt until Friday. What is getting rebuilt? Communication is key and there is none!

Working to rebuild the system?? How long does that take? Not an IT person but have to assume it takes more than a couple of days. What about associates personal information? Has that been compromised. Seems to me there are a ton of questions that need to be answered and honestly.

My manager just checked in. No new updates at this time. Still working to rebuild the system. Likely to be down all day.

Any update yet? My manager is keeping us in the dark, no responses from him at all
As for all the delivery drivers, be ready to get to be over worked severely more

If you enjoy working from home I wouldn’t be talking about how you don’t work. Most of us actually do work very hard all day from home and don’t want to lose that.

There is no communication about a "hack". I would just stay in touch with your manager and be ready to work when back online. Do no start rumors and speculation. Staples is doing all they can to get back up and running. We are all down. We are all in the same boat and it will continue to float with a few misfires and such.

Getting paid for not working sounds like any other day of the week but now I don’t have to feel guilty or paranoid I will get caught out at the movies with my friends or doing my daily gaming. Thanks Staples

Corporate confirmed we will be paid for our scheduled hours during the outage. I am remote as well and the reason we can’t access Kronos and other programs is because we can’t access the VPN. I know outlook and teams don’t require the VPN so I’m not sure about that part but we have been told the entire system is being rebuilt and they are working on it around the clock. It likely won’t be back up today.

If we've been hacked, does that mean all our employee personal information is out there now in the hands of criminals?

Just got the call it’ll be down the rest of the day. Enjoy another day off folks!

Yeah I’m remote and can’t get into Kronos either.

I’m taking the approach that we’re all on standby until the call that everything’s been restored comes through.

If it has been hacked they could update the employees about it, it is a tense moment for every employee. Being in IT, I don't think Staples or Microsoft would not able to resolve this issue in 2 days, keeping in mind this would cost each party a wholesome money in terms of business.

Do you work remotely and cannot login to your PC at all? That might be an issue. At the physical locations, Kronos is working fine for employees to clock in and out.

Gotta be some sort of major cyber attack. Sycamore losing millions upon millions of dollars during this outage. Need to pray they don't try to make up some of it by cutting more people during the holidays.

Even if we can’t get into kronos to clock in?

Paychecks should be fine. This is not a Kronos issue. You should get paid for what you work.

I can’t get into anything at all! It’s more than a Microsoft issue. Microsoft is up and running fine for other companies. I got an error on outlook that “your organization has removed its data associated with this app” when checking if I could log in. I’m concerned about my paycheck. Everyone in my house works for Staples, is it time to look for a new job?

Can't access the hub.
Our manager keeps updating over text that IT is working to restore it. Got an automated call from Framingham, still an ongoing Microsoft outage. No ETA, this sure seems like something big.

This is a message to all Staples, Inc. employees. We are continuing to experience issues across various Microsoft platforms, including MS Outlook and Teams today, November 29th.

We are working hard to bring all systems back up as quickly as possible. We will provide an update shortly. Thank you for your patience.

FC's are totally down. Retail DC's are getting by as of 8:30AM. Store delivery should have minimal impact. Internet orders are screwed. Don't make no weekend plans.

This is why I feel I should be friends with some of my AR teammates on social media. I cannot communicate with them whatsoever with their work credentials, and only found one or two via social media. Hopefully paychecks won’t be affected this week.

My manager has been sending us updates. Not much info, just that they are working to restore the system and that there is still no ETA of when it will be done but hopefully soon. Corporate hasn’t confirmed anything but the assumption is that we were hacked.

The communication is the worst part - one vague message yesterday and the same posted on the hub? Ridiculous. Luckily I’ve been getting some details from a director but no understanding of any actual ETA or what was impacted that may need immediate attention upon the systems becoming available again. So frustrating!!

As of 7:10 am it’s still down. IT is saying Microsoft is down but they’re clearly hiding something. It’s not just Microsoft it’s the whole staples server
