Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Sensitivity and Dignity, my a-s

Honestly, the whole byline notified with 'sensitivity and dignity' is an absolute joke! Try a VP on a group call letting everyone on the call know that they are being RIFd all at once and he was excited about the direction Verizon was headed. What the actual @&%? If this is the future of this ridiculous company, consider yourself lucky. Take that package and run!

@3yif+1pAdwing The funny thing is though is that management is derived from someone who started at the bottom. So the “ peons” become management mostly by hanging around long enough to get promoted because there was nobody else to choose from. It’s like this in all of retail. Maybe 10 plus years ago things were done differently. Want to be promoted in retail ? Drink the kool aide and be loud and super positive on all the calls. Performance and numbers are a thing of the past. It’s all about talking the talk but not actually walking it.

The reason you've only had 2 out of 15 good managers is because it is too much of a headache for the Good ones to want to do it. You basically get cr-p from the top and are told to implement it.

At Verizon, we have garbage management pretty much from the top down. As peons, we are mystified as to how most of these people ever were selected to be "people leaders" because most of them couldn't run a temperature, let alone a team to any success. I have been with the company for almost three decades and I have had fifteen different managers and only TWO of them were excellent leaders. Only two. Dead serious. Two out of fifteen that actually did their jobs every single day, offered their people assistance on a regular basis, developed their people, had any empathy at all, fully supported their people even through difficult times, and inspired their teams each and every day by leading by example. So sad.

They have to hit their buzz words its all it is. The dude probably doesn’t care or is actually excited about the layoff because he didn’t like the team or people that were laid off and so he showed it by saying he is excited about the direction. Sensitivity and Dignity is complete bs during a layoff. Take the money and don’t look back. Verizon is all hat and no cattle.

They're like wind up dolls with that excited for the way the company is headed thing. Pull the string and they start blabbering about it. Classless to say in a RIF notification meeting.
