I got an offer from a company I really wanted to work for just to have it rescinded a few days later. Talk about a hit to my confidence. Is this something that happens often? Or am I just that (un)lucky?

I experienced this after being impacted by a RIF by Truist and it was a blow. Looking back, the offer being rescinded and being laid off by Truist was the best for me in terms of career and overall well-being. Hang in there, it is scary when it happens but keep applying, networking, and be open to job areas outside of your skill set. I changed industries and am happier than ever! My personal opinion is if it was Truist who rescinded the offer, you may have dodged a bullet given the current volatility of financial services. Their loss! I when I asked for the reason, I was told the business segment’s budget was cut and the number of openings for that position reduced from 3 to 1.
Only you can answer that question. One question many miss: is your social media private?
I’m virtually certain that it has something to do with versus you. I haven’t heard of any offers rescinded for the several dozen colleagues who have left in the last year. My assumption is due to their funding being cut similar to what Truist is going through right now. Keep at it, you’ll get out eventually.
It can happen. Don’t let I keep you down. Keep pushing forward.
Did they give a specific reason why? Everything happens for a reason. Don't let that beat you up. It may have been a blessing in disguise. Always keep your options open and stay the course. I once left a job for a better opportunity and was miserable at the new company. Don't let this get you down.
