Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

My stress levels are through the roof

If this doesn't get resolved this week, I'll have to start medicating. Which is not something I ever thought I'd have to do due to work.

Had a co-worker who regretfully passed away from heart related illness recently.
He was the sole breadwinner of his family and left behind several kids, two of whom
have disabilities. No doubt that the stress of the layoff had something to do with this.
EC, you’ve got blood on your hands!

Thank you for sharing OP and having the courage to be self-aware and reach out for advice/consultation from others similarly situated. At least we have prep time in advance. My spouse works at a large bank that recently had layoffs, it came through like a tornado out of nowhere, there was a A LOT of f-bo--s dropped by those impacted on the layoff site for that company. At least we all have had a chance to shore up resources, process a possible job change and think through it. I don't believe a sudden, out of nowhere layoff tornado is less excruciating or stressful than the long drawn out.."so when people...WHEN??!!"

OP, sorry to heat that. It’s hard to see it right now but you’ll be OK. You’re not alone even if it feels that way because people are acting “normal” in meetings, and Teams msgs are full of lighthearted gifs. I think a lot of people are suffering on some level.

I think instead of announcing layoffs, the goal is to make everyone so miserable that there’s a voluntary mass exodus.

Try to focus on what you can control and control that. Like many have said, if you're laid off, its not the end of the world, and most likely you'll end up in a better spot. And laid off or not, you're going to have to get up, get ready and "work" every day, whether thats with Schwab, or for yourself (finding another job). Yes - the waiting and uncertainty is very challenging. But how much of life is really, truly certain everyday? Control what you can control. Deep breath.

I’m sorry you’re feeling so stressed OP. This really su-ks but you’ll get through it. Try to be kind to yourself right now, whatever that looks like. If you need to step away from work, do it. All this sh-t will pan out eventually. You WILL be okay.

@frn+1p8TH2CU …..
You are the pathetic one calling peoples livelihood stress pathetic. A juvenile bully, frankly. Some families have a lot on their plates, health issues, midst of cancer treatments. GTFOH with your patronizing and condescending commentary. Will most of us eventually land on our feet if we lose our job, likely. Will it take a toll
On our lives, likely. Congratulations to you for not having that stress. The work stress at my last job caused an employee to hang himself on parking garage. So STOP! Mental health issues caused by layoffs is real!

Found Rick…

Anyone stressed about this is well within their right. Most of us don’t get several 100s of Thousands a year and a lot live paycheck to paycheck. These jobs are our livelihood and losing it in todays economy and job market can have really far reaching consequences. I have been stressed since the announcement.

Write down what you are stressed about. Talk to your family, if you think it's something you can do. See if whatever you are stressed about is worth your health.

I did this, and my family is ready to cut down on things if it comes to it. So no stress now.

Listen, it’s going to be okay. In 2008 I was laid off three times in 18 months. Something better always comes out of it. And while it may seem like the end of the World, it’s not.

Just do your best and trust in yourself. Keep your head up.
