“Operations Location Strategy” job posting

I ran across an internal job posting with this title…guess they have to now hire people to carry out making employees lives miserable, aka “the goal of the program is to address the fragmented presence in the US by consolidating into a small number of target locations”. Yes let’s force RTO for jobs that can be done remotely, make you commute 2 hours a day into a jam packed office because we closed the other locations in your city…good luck actually getting any work done. This place has just become the epitome of what a company shouldn’t be on all levels…

@beq yes all remote positions are being changed to hybrid or in office at Ed jones. Not just new hires. Jan 1 everyone is back in office. It’s a major shift in policy since they touted remote work well before Covid existed. A lot of unhappy employees.

Yeah, well, F Edward Jones too. PayPal, Coinbase, and many other companies do have full remote jobs. WF has 26,000 people doing it still themselves.

@beq+1p8KP2V3 But is Edward Jones forcing people into the office that they hired as fully remote from the start, or only applying this to new hires?

Very odd to have a single position dedicated to this. What happens when the location strategy has run its course or changes direction again?

We are not the only firm doing this. Edward jones announced after years of promoting remote work they are ending total work from home & going 3/2 like us. Job postings state “applicants must be within commutable distance from office”.

@xyh+1p8KP2V3 not all of us who are remote are resistant to RTO. I am more than happy to work in an office, however, Wells Fargo has closed all offices near me and assigned me “Remote” status. I did not ask for it, nor really want it. The closest hub to me is 3 1/2 hours away. I have been told that I will be laid off (but not when). After 27 years with WF, I would have hoped for better from this company.

They might as well make this a contract gig, it will be over very soon. As far as admin bldgs go, we're about to go down to a handful. After that they won't need this person's ppt. They will be downsized in short order.

Classic wf where we have to hire someone for this vs ask someone who does no today to absorb the 40 hours it will take to whip up a ppt and present it.

@xyh+1p8KP2V3….one of the major points here is that they are getting rid of office locations…I wouldn’t even have too much of an issue if my commute was reasonable. But when you are on a team for years that was able to be remote and you buy a house far from downtown and then they issue the blanket rule of RTO and after that they start closing all the offices that were a reasonable distance from you, it’s a problem. No one wants to have the level of stress of a 2 hour commute in terrible traffic, takes years off your life. And it sounds like they will be getting rid of some markets entirely, so who wants to uproot your whole family for a place that does layoffs constantly. It’s about a lot more than just willingness to go to an office…

I'm not bitter at all and have been with this company over 20 years. yes things have changed a lot over the last few years and definitely not for the better, but if you aren't happy with your circumstances then change them. While our sr leadership su-ks I have found over the years that culture and happiness at the company is very group and manager specific. When I have had managers I didn't jive with I changed roles.

FRTO. It's horrible for the company AND employees. We need to stop wasting money buying political favors and get the he-l out of the entire concept of "admin buildings". Walk around any WF office and show me the "value". Head sets on, head down, minimal effort and getting out of the building as early as possible. That's all that happens there, and for that we are paying billions of dollars. It's madness.

I saw it. It’s like a P3 or P4 role. No authority. They want a PowerPoint creator.

sounds like the first reply someone is a little bitter. How sympathetic of you. I have been working with this company for over 18 years. Clearly there is no loyality to there employees like there was with Wachovia, but that was a long time ago. The culture has become toxic, debilitating, depressing, mean, unprofessional and I could go on and on. But we are beholden to our job for health insurance. And it su-ks
