Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Laid Off - No request or instructions to return MacBook

I got canned a while ago and there has been no instructions, box, or requests to send my MacBook back. So I just have a $2k+ paperweight laying around until I ki-l off remote management or install Ubuntu? I'm sure as he-l not going to put in time calling around to see who wants it back.

Don't contact it to the internet unless you wipe it or T will see it come up with the remote monitoring software hidden in the OS and it will also flag the system and your AD will get an email. Facts

It took T about three months before they sent me an official request, along with the necessary forms, to return my COU laptop and mobile phone.

All mail from AT&T would get the Return to Sender treatment after my last check.

“Which was great, because it gave me more than enough time to ensure I copied any and everything that I thought could be of value to me - including a lot of the work I did, copies of all communications, any/all feedback from supervisors, etc.”

I mean, it’s really pretty stupid to publicly admit to stealing proprietary data from a company device you don’t own that belongs to a company you don’t work for. Might not want to be so loud mouthed about it.

Send an email to hr and let them know since you are no longer being paid, they will need to send an employee out to either retrieve or box up your laptop with a signature that they are fully responsible for the device.

I only needed a little bit of that during my job search, but knowing I had this in case I needed any sort of documentation was reassuring.

Once I started my new gig I just deleted the entire batch of it because the last thing I wanted was anything related to T poisoning my new position.

I have tons of assets at home. It’s almost garage sale time.

I understand not wanting to contact anyone, but personally, I would suggest taking the contacting your former manager. The point is that you just never know when your paths might cross again. Maybe the manager won't help, maybe he/she will... but at least you would have tried. AT&T is incompetent and dysfunctional as an organization, but I try not to let that guide my own personal behavior.

Just leave it at work like a normal person.

This. Consider it part of your severance package.

Yup, same thing happened to me. It makes me wonder how much surplus is just inventory control.
