Now that we are all in the office, can we expect management to meet face to face with any staff co-located with them and let them know they will be surplused?

Well, in the good old days (2013 - 2020) there would be one mass layoff per quarter, with the occasional smaller culls happening sporadically through the year. We learned quickly enough to keep an eye out for any large meeting invitations for the end of the second month of each quarter, as that was when the announcement of the next "reorg" or whatever would come about.

If the meeting invite was essentially an "all hands" thing we knew that it was to announce the layoff is coming. If the meeting was large, but didn't include everyone in your org, you knew you were safe. If there was a subsequent meeting invite that was sudden, set for early in the morning, and only included you and your supervisor, you knew that you were out.

All in all it was easy enough to decode, and at least it was a pattern.

There will be a surplus every year forever. It is part of the play book. Reduce by 5-10% every year even if it is not needed. They are sending FTE jobs offshore it is no longer just contractors offshore. They will get rid of as many US employees as they can. Management is so afraid to speak up in fear of losing their own jobs that this surplus culture will never change.

AT&T’s stated goal is to get to around 75K employees by the end of 2025. Stated goal is also to get to 9 locations. Do the math and you can determine if losing people will be needed until the numbers are met.

Surplus will continue until business units are divested and sold . 1 year from now 50k employees will wear a badge with other than AT&T on it.

Watch for major headcount rationalization all throughout 2024. AT&T is busted a-s broke. They are making payroll by robbing from Peter to pay Paul. It will get a whole lot worse before it gets better (if getting better is even possible). $140B of debt, that's billion with a B! Please take a moment out of your day to personally Thank Stankey for destroying a once stellar blue chip company.

Intended to say- dates are placeholders.

There is only one place to look for company happenings.

The dates are in placeholders? Where should we look

Take a few minutes to look elsewhere and you will / may find the planned schedule for 2024. The dates are in placeholders for any and all business units that need to make workforce reductions throughout 2024.
