Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Women at WF- Are you judged on far more than your work? Like su-king up, being a cheerleader?

....and punished if you are not? Either with passive aggressive comments, reduced bonus, bad assignments, demoted work tasks, micro aggressions, bad internal references, etc?

lol, I feel your pain. Not at WF, but I've heard that kind of thing before. When "leadership" stops doing stupid things, I'll be more 'outwardly enthusiastic'.

Stop lying. Many men at WF hear “soft skills” in their performance reviews.

@6yog+1p4DufkO. It's funny how certain box check hires are not expected to have, nor are downgraded due to not having adequate "soft skills" either.

@6yog+1p4DufkO Yeah, and female managers talking S*** about you even though you've built them great processes that make THEM look good, but your "soft skills" are not unto par in their eyes. It's the only unquantifiable thing that you can be held back or dinged for.

Yes - how many men at WF hear “soft skills” in their performance reviews? Too bad you can’t query that cr-p from workday! Or could you? Most of my day is a spent making sure I don’t pi-s off the men in the business and their precious little egos…

I was going to post this deep, insightful comment asking why we are down voting people who are just sharing their experiences of having been discriminated against. The more I thought about it the more it exhausted me and honestly it's just not worth it. Whatever I say will never change your mind.
Keep downvoting women's stories I guess. It kinda proves op's pont though.

@3jvz, when trolling by pretending to be the gender opposite of your own it’s always a good option to check your spelling. (i.e. I’m a woman = singular; we are women = plural)
Better luck next time.

I have never felt like I was treated lesser than anyone at WF just because I’m a women.

I reported to a female manager (I am also female) who is well known for her favoritism of males who report to her. I was warned before taking the job, but didn't listen as I didn't believe it could be true. Something about her ego enjoys having men kiss up to her, but is incapable of listening AT ALL to anything a female report has to say. Best reviews go to male employees, best bonuses, and all of the promotions.

Yes, no point in bringing your hard work & talents here if it's going to be ripped up by psychopaths.

I was told by a male manager “You do great work but you need to be more outwardly enthusiastic “. Take from that what you will.

Managers look the other way and let some people get away with all kinds of things and do not hold certain people accountable for knowing and doing their jobs. I think the managers are afraid of being charged with discrimination, etc. The rest of us see what is going on and often have to fix what the others have done wrong. It’s appalling. Yet another reason the bank is not doing well.

I am a man, and I receive similar reviews from my female manager, which is very frustrating. The problem seems to exist in both ways! I am sick and tired of you people making stereotypical conclusions based on conjectures!

YES! My reviews actually said things like “not as outgoing” and chided me for not smiling more! I was a top performer but my “soft skills” were the majority of my review, not my actual work!
Very, VERY glad I left WF and work at a functional company now.

I agree with the two previous posts. It should not be an argument of men vs women because there are good people and bad people in both genders.

Bravo, finally some sane post. That's exactly what I wanted to hear and wholeheartedly agree. People should not try to put others into certain stereotypical categories, that's how the prejudices or biases start clouding your judgment.

I couldn't care less what my manager's gender is. Are they capable? Are they advocating for our group? Do they refrain from being an A hole for no reason? Alrighty then, I can work with them.

Over the years I've met both great and horrendous employees of both s-xes. People believing in stereotypes need to get out more, you just haven't stumbled upon the combo breakers yet.

Unless you are snarky & aggressive, as a female, you have no rights here.

Absolutely. I’ve been told that I was too passive, then the next year told I was too blunt. I’ve been told I was too quiet and my co-workers don’t know much about me and my personal life. Meanwhile, I’m working with an absolute nasty and rude male peer who got promoted to principle engineer. There’s no winning.

Yes, but I am not a younger employee. The first 5 years, my annual review included positive commentary on my smile. My self-evaluations were focused on metrics and deliverables but my bonus was tied to my smile. I watched male co-workers leapfrog into raises, bonuses and power positions. Cut the “cheerleaders” some slack while they try to right the wrongs of the previous generation of leadership. They were probably once evaluated on their smiles, too.

A guy on my team was mapped to a branch close to where he lives instead of the corporate office over an hour away, as it was his closest location. Female boss told him they'd both be quiet about it for RTO. I asked to move to a different location, even offering to go into that office & was refused. Yes, I'm female. Same boss told me once before a meeting "Be nice", yet tolerated male team members' aggressive put downs of others during meetings & said nothing. I didn't know I was supposed to be Barbie when coming to work here. Who knew.
