Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

While we’re waiting

Let’s play a game called “Here’s the most id--tic thing I heard a Schwab senior leader say”. Feel free to attribute it to someone directly or not. Your call.

"If you're not in the office, you're just phoning it in."

Said OFTEN by this leader. 🤦‍♀️

“We are transparent” followed by “no, I can’t tell you who or when layoffs will occur, what orgs will be most impacted, and RTO was for collaboration and culture.” Just because you say something like “we are transparent” “we care about employees” “we’re a schwamily [cough]” doesn’t make it true - even if you say it over and over. Provide cost of living salary increases at the very least and it’s a step in putting some action toward employees. Save $$ by getting rid of all of the limeade cr-p and provide COLA rather than 100% comp increases to EC the year of a layoff (2021). Also, laying off employees every 2 years is NOT “financially responsible” - quite the opposite.

“We are a public company and are required to announce layoffs 3-4 months in advance with no detail or plans” … only the first part is correct.

Business class, conferences, IMPACT a fun vacation, are useful expenses but we can’t increase ur pay, can’t get u a laptop ate wasteful expenditure. It’s time Schwab revamped the leadership especially those who are directors and MD.

@pzp+1p2aMJ9F ah yes because any healthy organization does really well when leaders can't hear different opinions, other points of view or the words "i disagree".

if that is who we have running this place? then i hope i get sent packing too. The only reason i havent left yet is because i dont want to miss out on the chance of severance and leave money on the table.

don’t focus on your own anxiety about losing your job, just focus on serving out clients.

rick started this, and i’ve heard other MDs use this line

"ooo man internally after the RTO announcement most leaders were FUMING and couldnt believe they were doing this...then shortly after they all seemed to have a 180 in opinion and reaaaaally supported it and were "excited" for the chance to be back in person..."

That's because senior leadership are a bunch of petty pinheads who are generally known to punish leaders underneath them who have too many opinions and/or don't drink the Kool-Aid. You wanna guess how many of your "fuming leaders" are probably going to be sent packing next week? It's pretty high.

the respect for senior leaders and this org in general has had a steady decline since june

I went to a round table with a bunch of c-suites, technology managers etc and they all say "can't wait to collaborate" "love the campus" all coming from people that just hop meeting to meeting on a daily basis.

Funny how none of them try to explain how folks chained to a phone are supposed to 'collaborate' or 'synergize'

@fls+1p2aMJ9F Maybe he just hates his director and is trying to imply that the man is unethical.

@jjp+1p2aMJ9F we all knew they were necessary.. clearly, they're not urgent because we've been sitting on them for months now...

Had a manager tell my team in writing that we aren’t here to do what is right or ethical, we are here to do exactly as our director says.

The OP must be someone hired by EC to convince us that cuts are urgent and necessary. So far, the plan is working.

not mine but another leader loves scheduling friday meetings for the afternoon because "thats the only time we all had free this week"

and it is always to talk about something that isnt happening for weeks

(given all necessary information in an email)

"lets just on a call real quick to discuss it further"

(proceeds to just rephrase entire email in their own words)

"this is an opportunity for us..." when it is actually something that will only hurt the team

pretty sure no leader knows what the word "opportunity" really means

I won’t name my senior leader but she should lay off the $.25 words because she often mispronounces them or misapplies them in sentences.

“Emmfetic” is my favorite of hers.

I can feel my intelligence lowering simply by being on her calls.
