He hung up after what had to be a solid 2 minutes of me laughing quite loudly into the phone...

I know of a few folks, most that left over a combination of sh!tty salary and FTO being called after quitting and being begged to return as their areas were falling down due to understaffing. Some were offered 30-40% increases to return. None of them came back. Fool me once.....
Pretty sure if you had asked to get your position, compensation and remote option that you had they wouldn't have given it to you. Sc--w them.
