Thread regarding Kyndryl layoffs

Checking the "woke" box

From Amy: "We want to acknowledge the pain caused by the hateful act of violence targeting members of the Black community this past week in Jacksonville, Florida. Far too often we’re reminded that hate and prejudice exist in the world. At Kyndryl, we remain steadfast in our stance that violence against any community, in any form, is reprehensible. We understand this has been a heavy week for Kyndryl US. More broadly, we want to emphasize our commitment to fostering inclusion and fighting inequality and discrimination – and amid this tragedy, we pledge to stay true to our values to empower our people and advance a more inclusive and equitable future for all. In the coming weeks, Todd Scott, our US BeKIN executive sponsor, will host a listening session, providing Kyndryls who are hurting an open forum for discussion. "
Sick of executives making everything about race and "DEI".

Meritocracy, HaHAHA what company do you work for. I worked at IBM for a long time. I have never seen this meritocracy you speak of. I am currently still with Kyndryl, and let me tell you it's not there either. Look at our last round of layoffs in Raleigh. How many persons were brought back in a couple of weeks because of who they knew. Customers do not care what the internal politics are of a company. All that is valued, is getting the job done at the cheapest cost. You are a disposable worker, when you get to be to expensive to keep for the value you provide. The company will let you go.

One thing that had been truly great (no sarcasm) at IBM and at Kyndryl upon spinoff was they ran a meritocracy -- i.e. "performance" was what mattered and what got rewarded. Didn't matter and didn't care if you were green with 3 heads, 5 arms, and 8 s-xes or just "everyday Joe/Jane". Then... DEI started getting traction, to the detriment of performance. As someone else had told me, look at the executives' background, and they all have been nursed on the same sick and twisted pablum. However, there has been some push-back within the ranks (and more importantly from the clients/market), and more recently - may hope live eternal - there MIGHT be a spark of insight taking hold in those addled brains: "Go woke, go broke". So, although continuing to hear some of the stereotypical DEI BS, in practice focus SEEMS to be moving back towards actually - gasp! - doing a good job.

Kyndryl needs more diversity with in management. Middle aged white men need to go. There is real potential to be tapped with in the minority community. I am hoping this company will become more representative of the real world demographic. I am hoping for change, Not really seeing change.

Pollyanna, poor poor poor gullible fool. I wish my world did turn as yours does. Since this is the real real world. I will gladly get into your business, so I can keep you out of mine.

Why are we even having this type of conversation any how? Live your life, do no harm live and let live. Corporate america will do what they will do. Stop throwing each other under the bus.

Sadly, this whole conversation seems to mimic the ongoing vitriol in other social media and in our society as a whole. Perhaps folks need to chill a bit.

I am an older, white male and work with folks from various orgs in the company; most tend to be fair, conscientious, and hard-working. There are many younger people and minorities in positions above me. I welcome that. Unfortunately, many good workers - of all ages actually - have been forced out to the detriment of our existing clients who pay the bills. Whether this is due to age, income, or competency is debatable, but it's a business decision that may well haunt the company going forward.

I just turned fifty five years old. No let me properly reiterate the last statement. I just turned fifty five and am a white male in corporate America. I have precipitously lost value with each birthday. I am fully aware of the contempt corporate America has on my Demographic. So the hater's of this demographic be patient. We are a dying breed of worker, at some point. We will be gone, and that will be that.

Characterizing this message as “woke,” speaks volumes. Basically you want a world where bigots are coddled at the expense of every minority. I agree with the other comments, a lot of older white men are angry as they see their own privilege being eroded as equality is extended to minorities. These old white men who will not accept a world where women and minorities are their equal, they are the problem. Being a crashingly mediocre white man should never have been enough to get you the big job with the big salary, but that’s what these people are used to. They can’t handle an equal world because they know they can’t compete in that world.

Weed out your bigots' and your racists'. This act alone will greatly improve the success of non-white's in this company. I will say this as clearly and concise as I can. You have too many Older white middle age men in your company. They still cling to a superiority and bias attitude towards non-whites.

I am a white person, so I say this with confidence and purpose. Kyndryl is a haven for the middle age white man. For whom I am one. The black people, in this company have it hard. They are overtly shunned or purposely not given enough mentorship by senior white co-workers. Their job related questions go unanswered. They are barred from inclusivity by the very good ol boy culture in this company. It really is pervasive in Raleigh.
