Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Suing company before signing severance

I’m debating suing CVS instead of signing the severance agreement. I was a remote worker and believe I was targeted because of this. The rest of my team was in office and I was the only person laid off in the team. I believe remote workers were targeted unfairly.

Should I sue?

Take your severance, skills, and experience in the field and find a startup that is doing something cutting edge and useful in your area of expertise. Those are the companies that CVS et al will be trying to buy down the road. Despite catchy phrases like "startup in a big company" they are too legacy laden to execute on their own.

It is amazing that Karen Ly--h and her entourage are monitoring this site. Your job is to run a failing company not to fill this site with shills.

Got the lay off axe. Remote, above 40 and undergoing cancer treatment.

How about an antitrust lawsuit. Actively working against employees interests in secret with other companies, local municipalities, state governments and commercial real estate investors to force people back into the office 3 days a week.

Fu-k all these people.

Being a remote worker doesn't make you a protected class. However, if you are over 40, you might have a case. There seems to be a trend, by looking at the jobs that were cut, of firing more experienced and professional workers (no doubt to hire cheaper, younger workers).

Contact an attorney first. Most will work on contingency in cases like this. If an attorney is willing to take the risk to file a suit, you will likely have a good case. If no attorneys are interested, take the package a be glad you got out before the company really started to fail.

As a contractor I received nothing. Not even a thank you. Suing will bring you more pain and stress than it’s worth. Even if you win.
You lose. Employees are at will. Take your severance and don’t confuse a company that has a heart for a logo, really has a heart.

Take your severance and run. Other opportunities are out there. Take advantage of LHH services offered as part of package. And focus your energy on positive thoughts - this is a sign from the universe that it is time to pivot!

Remote by itself won’t work. Over 50 and Remote might work. Any protected group might work. The company uses zip code data to target minorities. Closure of stores is done in a discriminatory manner. CVS has Jackson Lewis on speed dial. Good Luck!

I wasn't laid off but people in my dept were. I can't live like this. The stress of the next layoff. The behind the back politics. It's eating away at me and I can function at work. I will use my time at work to post out for other jobs outside CVS.

I'm more convinced every day that the stress of this situation is causing temporary insanity. Please take the severance.

You have no case. If you want change then vote for stronger labor laws and not for identity politics.

They laid off 5000 workers, some remote some wfh. You have no case.

PS why are Americans so Sue happy? Seriously? Trying to sue for absolutely nothing is why our system is so messed up.

Sue for what? They literally can fire you because you’re a remote worker. It’s not a protected class and you’re not guaranteed an indefinite length of employment.

If you want to fo-e go your severance and waste your money, go ahead. But no lawyer is taking this loser of a case.

Suing would be worthless. Remote workers is not a protected class. CVS could fire every remote employee on a whim with no repercussions
