TMO to lay off 5,000 workers; about 7% of its work force.

Thoughts?

“Too many pms and no worker bees”. That is completely true and they keep making more and more. I got forced into a pm role to sell our non existent internal service to another group of pms trying to sell their new group and eventually it probably gets to some team that supports us in the same way. Now eliminate one group and choas ensues but no one would notice if we were all gone.

Sprint had a lot of excellent employees.

I actually worked at both Sprint and Verizon and I didn't see a noticeable difference in employee quality.

Keep in mind that that Verizon originated from a monopoly (i.e., Bell Atlantic spawned from the real AT&T) and was gifted tremendous financial advantages (i.e., cash cow local telephone business in NY & NJ. cellular licenses, etc.) that Sprint never had.

Layoff at T-Mo is 7%. Will not affect retail or care which are about 2/3.

1/3 will be about 20k employees that will be affected. 5,000 job cuts is about 25% cut.

Huge

TMO has had large rounds of layoffs since the beginning of the year. An additional 7% is a prety deep cut. Our Dday here at Verizon is inevitably comming. Its just a matter of when and how deep they cut the fat.

Guess their subsidies are catching up with them. Just hope that VZ doesn’t follow suit. I know we’ve dropped several thousand ourselves this year, but we still Cary 40k-ish more employees. I’m sure someone in Finance is looking at that.

I hope not either. I’ve been working from home since covid building my reality business on the side. I need the full time paycheck at least another couple years.

Wow. I haven't heard anything but I don't know how they couldn't do layoffs soon.

Sure hope Verizon doesn’t follow suit. I make an outstanding salary but have zero skillset. I don’t really want to flip burgers for a living.
