Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

I can’t wait to see how low the stock goes tomorrow after the earnings are released

I see one of the following possibilities:

  1. The poor earnings are already expected are already priced in
  2. Medtronic does even worse than expected and share price falls
  3. . Given careful explanation about foreign exchange rates, supply chain gremlins and other headwinds the street understands.

Get your popcorn ready!

lol

  • the stock tanked because of the FDA panel on Renal Denervation, not the "one analyst"

Lol see, it just takes one analyst article today to tank the fragile stock by 2%: https://seekingalpha.com/article/4630851-medtronic-q1-2024-earnings-review-management-placates-the-market

@1stq+1odB1ng4 It's because the story doesn't make sense; layoffs and strong earnings? Couple of my analyst buddies are like, you don't do layoff strong earnings, unless you financially engineered those earnings which isn't a sustainable way to grow the company.

Dead cat bounce as usual. Stock price will drop again by the end of week to sub-80 levels after a financial analyst posts criticism lol.

pretty modest bump for a relatively strong report . Street still doesn't trust Geoff and Karen and the rest of excom to not sc--w it up. still off almost 10% from 1 month ago.

Geoff “Although our earnings are not where we want them to be, we are a very diverse company so there’s that “
Sally “Yup!”

Don’t forget WFH, that definitely lowers the stock price by a few bips.

Other reasons could be flesh eating bacteria, El Niño, and Hawaiian fires. God help us! We heard it all. Time for GM, ExCom, and GS&OI to abandon ship. Hopefully we beat expectations and give good forward guidance.

Geoff: And these macro headwinds only impact Medtronic and not BSX/ABT.

Analyst: So these are more micro headwinds since impacting only MDT.

Geoff: No, definitely macro. All my LT told me so.

Geoff: “also our earnings were impacted by Covid, higher mortgage rates and global warming.”
Karen: “Yup!”

I don’t see The Street worrying about long term supply chain issues. The Wal-Mart guy has it under control.
