Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

RTO - Part 2

Everyone has a voice and a perspective and I know mine will likely not be welcome here. However, here goes…I don’t mind being in the office and it’s fun to interact with my colleagues. If the Company wants people in the office, why sling mud about it? We all have options. Also, there are others who believe in- office work is better and that it contributes to productivity. See an excerpt from a Business Insider article from Aug:

“A July working paper published by the National Bureau of Economic Research that studied data-entry workers in India found that workers randomly assigned to work from home were 18% less productive than those in the office. A recent analysis of multiple studies by the Stanford economist Nick Bloom, a leading remote-work expert, found that fully remote workers were 10% to 20% less productive than their in-office counterparts. These findings come as US labor productivity- as measured by the Bureau of Labor Statistics- has slowed in recent quarters.”

Our space in the office is so tight we are literally shoulder to shoulder at our desks. It's the smallest space I have ever worked in. I can read for of my neighbors screens woth ease. Two amd a half years ago we got the get your a$$es in the office from Uncle Tony Marino. This is what it leads to. No privacy and we overhear everyone's conversations.

The A/C is suspiciously "broken" in Lincoln on very hot days (it was definitely not working properly today). The shipping lady gets angry when the issue is raised. I am beginning to believe that the A/C is being cut as a cost-saving measure, at the expense of employee comfort.

Want me back to the office? Give me a damn office. With a door. And a parking space.

Yes Mr OP most of have worked remotely for at least 10 years when they closed our local offices so you really missed the point. We have no offices near us anymore to go into!

Productivity went up during Covid and went down when companies forced RTO

I worked from home for years with no problems. When I bought my house, this was a major factor in my decision. I now drive over an hour in the mornings to get to work, and an hour and a half to two hours to get home after work. It’s the chaos that his decision has caused that is making people angry. I wouldn’t mind working in the office if I lived closer. And no, selling my house and moving closer is not an option.

Yeah there is always a study that somehow confirms whatever somebody wants and right next to it study that is saying complete opposite... Just allow workers to work from wherever they choose to, it is that simple. If they don't deliver results fire them.

WFH should be both a choice and privilege. There are also people who prefer to work from office, which is great for them…but it should not be one size fits all or else!

Personally, my problem with it is we were expected to figure out how to make our daily commute work without any help from the company. Gas + inflation are up, FB gave himself an astronomical bump in pay this year, while I received no increase in years. I pay roughly $400 more per month in gas and am one mechanical issue away from being under water. I’ve expressed this to leadership previously but they aren’t here to help. Leaders eat last, and we clearly don’t have any of those.

McDonalds Employees.

Villagers.

Now you think we are Data Entry Employees.

You truly have no idea what Fiserv employees do here, do you?

Did you quote a study from India? Lofl.

How about the litany of studies conducted in the US showing how much happier and more productive remote workers are?

Hey, if you like being in an office, and you live in a place where your BU is centralized then by all means, go in. Five days a week. Six even. He-l, seven if you're squirrelly. But this forcing people to commute into offices where none of their coworkers reside, or worse forcing people to move, is asinine. Especially when a person has shown to be a high performer and/or an SME when working from home.

It's the blanket policy that's mind numbingly stupid.

Location over knowledge is a terrible strategy! Our job is to serve our clients - what you know is 100x more valuable then where you are located. They are closing sites and moving the positions to hubs and filling with new associates - 10 years from now fiserv still will not have replaced the knowledge lost.

You miss the point, many of us were well tenured/seasoned associates of original Fiserv, worked from home for many years and were high performers who had proven our worth. These studies may be true for some younger workers but not for the seasoned associates who had proven WFH works. FB is an id--t, he could have left seasoned employees in place as WFH to train in office new hires. But nope, he destroyed the culture and the company. Congratulations FB, you succeeded in destroying this company!
