Most people in IT are just googling solutions all day. If you can use the internet you can solve your own IT problem.
Half the time I call my IT child to walk me thru fixing stuff. Typically my problem gets solved in 5 minutes rather than 5 hours .
You get what you pay for when it comes to IT support
How does this relate to the topic of layoff???
I kept a post it on my computer for years that said “DONT CALL SPOC”. IT was great when we had an in house person but every time you get someone from overseas it’s a nightmare and they make it worse most times…that is if you can even understand them through the heavy accent.
Sorry, don't mean to be disrespectful to the IT dept. but when we have an issue we fondly say - After you've tried everything you can think of, it's time to roll the dice & call the "The Helpless Desk".

Lol so I was a contractor 7 years ago under a different manager. My heartbeat profile still shows my old profile with old manager and everything . The data hasn’t been updated in years I keep telling them they keep telling me to go to HR which keeps telling me to go to my manager who tells me to go to IT service centre its a joke
IT colleague here. The help desk is staffed by outside contractors and generally are no help to even the IT people.
I always search the knowledge bases in IT Central before I call.
Word.. It gives me anxiety if i ever have to call them. To be avoided at all cost
