Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

DEI is not a priority anymore

For those of you saying DEI is the priority - it’s so much further from the truth. It may have been something but not anymore. Everything DEI is being highly scrutinized and budgets eliminated. All ERGs have been cancelled for the rest of year. Pulling from events and sponsorships. Big projects for DEI cancelled. Everything to support anyone not a white man, is being questioned.

But if you’re upset that DEI or supporting people who are different than you, was a priority - I question why that’s such an issue for you- what’s the problem?

DEI has put unqualified people in Mgmt positions, especially in IB. They’ll see lots of attrition at year end, over and above the layoffs.

DEI isn’t going away. It’s a racist program all across the country directly going against MLK’s I Have a Dream speech.

So does EL start to pivot from the “purpose” and “care” theme next as the only purpose seems to be not to care?

DEI is/was a stupid program from the get go. Good riddance!

If I may wade into the already deep waters here, like with any mentality that gains steam, there's an element of truth to it. For example, for a white person to feel as if minority people haven't been marginalized and/or neglected historically and in many cases currently is at best naive. So I don't understand the vitriol towards these folks who have it imbedded to feel this way. However, on the other side it is quite easy to see the mentality of how turning true diversity into the fulfilment of quotas immediately means the end of meritocracy and all the ramifications that come with it - the death of even the quest for a superior product and what that means for our jobs and our company's place in the marketplace, etc.

But with that element of truth garnering the cultural sea change that it has, there also exists the opportunity for greedy corporations to capitalize. There are no DEI departments in coal mines or on oil rigs. It becomes a thing when our jobs can largely be handled with internet access and a Zoom call. Ultimately though, DEI is a lose-lose, as it by its very existence it is a divisive tool: it alienates the people who don't agree, while it deceives the people who agree into actually thinking that the company cares about it. They don't. Corporations are barometers, not thermostats. They have decided that this is the way the wind is blowing and are grasping at ways to capitalize on it.

Humanity is by its very nature sectarian - millennial vs. boomer, sports rivalries, propane vs. charcoal, Baptist vs. Catholic, Democrat vs. Republican, and yes, race. The list is endless because we are human. This diversity of thought is part of what makes the human race so beautiful. Let's not make it ugly by assuming the worst of each other.

This forum is a grand place to pull for each other, share news, throw shade at our "betters". Let's not bite each other to bloody the waters :) (/soapbox)

I guess we're going to keep moving everything to the mainframe.

Go pound sand with the “market self corrects” propaganda.

I don’t care about your feelings.

It might be noble in theory but at Truist I saw too many shameless and mediocre people exploit “DEI” as a fast track to positions they weren’t qualified for and would never have gotten otherwise. Sorry, just the truth.

Tracy Daniels still survives at her pay grade without anyone reporting to her. This is an example of DEI

“What is DEI?”

Nice “long game” there buddy. Let me guess. Some answers your “question” that could have easily been googled. You then act “surprised” that DEI is in existence. “Debate” ensues. You go back under your bridge and tell all your amateur troll buddies what you just did You have a grand time laughing, only taking a break when Mom yells “dinner is ready” down into the basement.

@enm+1oVdTYqN Louder for the folks in back!
I know the back office relies on the hard work of women of color who are underpaid.

If you are over 40 and can’t see how much being a white person in general has helped you in life… That’s kinda sad. Also people are delusional if you think DEI has anything to do with our stock price.

Because it’s a for profit bank, not a charity. I’ll believe DEI has been cut when I actually see it.

It’s the first reasonable thing that’s been cut during this miserable “cost cutting time.”

DEI is awful and anyone that supports it is a lost soul.

When everyone who has DEI in their job title is gone then it will really be over. If you bought into the whole DEI and ESG nonsense then shame on you.

A quick review of the state of the company should answer your question. It’s the great thing about a market, it self corrects.
