ADA mental health condition

Clearly tech is about to see big cuts.

I have an ADA-covered mental health condition that I have not mentioned to WF in the past. Is there any benefit to mentioning it now?

If so, is it just a matter of logging onto Teamworks and finding the relevant form?

I am an ADA disabled employee. Self identified on my application, and in workday for years. I also had approved accommodations. I was with WF 10 years (this time). I was a high ranking/producing member of my team.

They just laid me off a few weeks ago. So no, it makes no difference.

Ha. The choice that was made was to eliminate the domestic work force, and to do it as cheaply as possible. Hudson Yards doesn't care about RTO, at all. If employees hated WFH and all wanted to be in the office, they'd be forcing people to WFH. Their only objective is getting rid of us, so they do what they think will drive attrition. That's where RTO came from. We all go. All of us. That's the decision that's been made. Keep thinking that bootlicking will save you. It won't. You'll be grabbing your cardboard box of office trinkets and heading for the door right after we are.

Why would you say this?

Keep in mind that self disclosure is entirely different from requesting an accommodation.

If you are over 65 PLEASE consider retiring in February.

As previously posted, it’s comical that those who have a documented situation who end up getting let go automatically assume it’s because of the said documented situation. Couldn’t POSSIBLY be for any other reason ever, nope, nuh uhhhh.

Many of you just don’t get it.
If WF wants us all in the office 3 days (or whatever arbitrary #) and we don’t conform then we’re out. End of story. It may take time for it to happen, there will be exceptions and favoritism along the way but it’s going to happen in the end. Every reason and excuse given for let us WFH doesn’t matter. A choice is made and Corporations view it as a sunk cost and push forward until a bitter outcome of success or failure. You want to feel reasonably safe, cancel your accommodation and go to work.

it seems people think that if you have a disability it protects you from layoff or that layoffs are a way to get rid of people with disabilities. Neither of these is the case. WF does what is required and provides accomodations which could be work from home, special computer accessories, office equipment, etc. when it comes to layoffs I promise they are putting that much though into who should kr should not be included, that would require effort. They cast a wide net and if you get caught it in, disability or not, your gone.

I had previously indicated to WF that I had a disability, and I was included in mass layoffs in 2021. Reporting a disability does diddly to reduce your chances of a layoff.

Remember back in the day, before the layoffs started when the company bragged about how they were hiring neurodiverse people? It feels like they were just gaming the system, trying to score points with regulators only to turn around and layoff everyone after they scored their political points.

@1oci

Exactly. WF revels in mass layoffs bc they can then sweep up those w/disabilities in larger layoffs and it won't look like targeting.

WF views disabled people as weak and a hindrance. it's appalling and well known among doctors who have to deal w/WF on behalf of employees w/disabilities.

Life is already difficult enough. We are not seeking special treatment, only fair treatment.

I can confirm, during the large 300+ layoffs in my building last month people with disabilities, health conditions to be WFH were laid off.

WF has been doing this a long time and they know how to work the system.

@1kfy

This is untrue. Having a disability -- mental or physical, visible or invisible -- does NOT make you immune from being laid off. It also does not make mgr give you less work.

People w/disabilities are stigmatized enough. We don't need people like you spreading falsehoods.

Although WF claims they don't discriminate, they do. My doctor warned me it could make me vulnerable at WF since company is known for finding ways to get rid of such people.

With that said, I did report it. It won't make me safe from layoffs, could make me more vulnerable, but I am being honest about my condition.

Do what you feel is right and is best for your mental health.

Yes it’ll guarantee they can’t fire you and your mgr will become scared of asking you to do anything.

Don’t be afraid to share it, but it doesn’t provide you any protection when it’s happening to everyone.
