I might have a opportunity to join Truist audit and started asking around and now I'm nervous. Everyone I talk to says it is miserable and one said "horror show". I get layoffs are coming but same where I am now. My gut says this is a mistake.

Time to unionize.

I lasted <2 years, a few of which were under the prior CAE, who seemed very level-headed. I often look in the mirror and wonder, “is it me?” when things feel off, but it’s clear in this case it was not me. It felt toxic from day 1 once the regime changed. Then watching outsiders get slotted into high ranking positions was amusing. Very disorganized, and already unreasonable expectations changed with the wind. There were a handful of people pretty high up who struck me as in over their head as well.
The comp was good and I got on well with my immediate teammates, but it was a massive relief to hand in my resignation.
Sidenote: the org structure was very top heavy, even before DD. So many mangers, sr managers, directors and a very small pool of staff/sr auditors. I never understood how anyone felt this was viable or sustainable.
This group with rot your soul and then you will need to complete a template on it, complete a L1 L2, and then have Mercy Anne sign off that it is completely rotted to her satisfaction.
Given all the people who have left I doubt there will be layoffs in Audit.
Now, as how bad it is that tough to say. It’s not great right now, but if really depends on your situation now. If you are getting. massive raise your current employer won’t give you likely makes sense. Good luck
The old BB&T was a great place to work where it seemed like management really cared. The merger with SunTrust caused all that to go down the toilet. You can see that in all the incompetence that has gone on with the credit. card activation issue and many other problems with their platforms.
While layoffs are sadly common in most places, it is especially ugly at Truist because the incompetence from the merger has created huge expenses that the market is demanding they reduce - and that comes in the form of massive RIFs.
So yeah, what you are hearing is not hyperbole. Truist is a place to stay far far away from.
No, it's worse.
We are so understaffed because everyone keeps quitting, I’m not sure layoffs will affect audit
Senior Leadership in TAS is pretty bad, as seen in the linked thread. There are still some good Directors and Managing Directors, although they’re being driven out. Do you know which Senior Managing Director you would be under? Depending on who your SMD would be it might be bearable if you can put up with the constant changes to processes and expectations.
senior audit manager here... your gut is right. until leadership changes or does a 180, this place is not a great work environment, see links and comments other have made.
I know someone who quit the auditing department without even having another job lined up at all because this person was sick of working all the time. So I would say it needs vast improvement.
100% agree with the poster who said leadership wants teammates "to be seen, but not heard" That is the vibe I get - sad but true!
Dude male your money but don't invest emotionally
I would trust your gut…
Truist is a struggling bank right now, as evidenced by their ranking at the bottom, or near the bottom, in almost every financial/client service metric. That unto itself creates a stressful workplace. What compounds this stress is Truist’s executive team views its employees in a very narrow way; capable of defined tasks and little else. They remind me of the old saying, “children should be seen, but not heard.” Employees are treated like children at Truist.
This executive mindset, combined with seemingly constant layoffs, has created an extremely toxic and paranoid work environment. There is little to no collegial support across segments. I don’t want to sound too negative, and at some point Truist will likely become a decent place to work, but right now this is a company with a bad executive team who are “blaming” employees for their own incompetence. When that happens, count on it to get worse before it gets better.
Always trust your gut!

Truist is doing lot of auditing due to compliance purpose. So i guess it would be safe from layoff.
