“Expertise”……Its not possible to use that word and “Union” in the same sentence and not cry a chuckle out of it. Union folks are so delusional as to their actual skill sets and what they bring to the table. They think doing narrowly focused, simple tasks for a long time or repetitively makes them experts on everything. Fact is, they get comfortable in their little bubbles and the union protects that at all costs. JFC, it’s a joke.”

Wow check out this guy. Has absolutely zero idea what goes into the network. It takes years to make a decent central office or loop electronics technician. Always learning always changing. You wouldn’t believe what goes into our emergency power systems. That’s all handled by the union. No room for error 24/7 job all types of weather. Weekends, nights , weather, pole climbing, ice storms, customer homes, attics ,dogs. Grab a generator and take it 100 miles and hook it up in the ice. It’s no point and click career very dangerous at times. You need to show some respect for the men and women that keep things running. When things don’t work it’s our emergency on the weekends not yours so enjoy that AC while you talk down to us.

If the poster Post ID: @1wud+1oQio2UN had to go into a Central Office basement to restore power, I promise you they would pi-s themselves.

That’s why Friday is the best day to go in. Nobody is around. Put your feet up on the desk and watch a movie.

Not so sure about the statement below. My cousin was just hired by Blackrock as a senior executive and she works from home. She has to attend mtgs on occassion and some travel and she is making a 7 figure salary.

All the research says that if you want a upward trajectory career, in any industry, you show up at the office. You can’t get ahead staying at home, no matter how hard you’re working.

We have had quite a few union technicians promoted into management over the years. Many of them had a common attribute. Laziness.

100%. I logged on from home this morning around 9:30, took my dogs for a walk, made breakfast, met with the handyman, checked Teams to see if boss looking for me, left for grocery store, back to unload, then off for a run to happy hour. I just love working from home.

Managers are a unnecessary evil that could be replaced with lower waged workers or just fired as Stanky says. See ya

“Standing in front of equipment you know nothing about and slotting cards or mounting equipment on a backboard while complex automation in the background handles all of the provisioning, doesn't make you necessary. It makes you a necessary evil that we would like to replace with lower waged workers, but can't because of those Cadillac union contracts and 20th century thinking and culture. It's not skill that's keeping you employed, I promise you that.“

Yes as you said. Once a technician has plugged a card into a network element, then automation goes to work. If there is a problem then Satesh in India gets involved. He received a "knowledge transfer". No need for you anymore.

See how that works? Su-ks for you, I don't like, it but it is what is is. You may RTW, I mean RTO but will likely be OOaJ soon. Out Of a Job.

I don’t think it’s the contract that keeps the union around it’s the expertise. Contracts expire often and why would the company sign a new one 100% of the time if it was not in their interest. They wouldn’t.

I am in Atlanta and see almost no one here. Beautiful fall day as I look out my office window while I on a conference call. Must be nice to get a four day weekend here in Atlanta.

Ok bro. Keep taking fridays off and talking cr-p on the union. We’ll see how far that gets you.

"It makes you a necessary evil that we would like to replace with lower waged workers, but can't because of those Cadillac union contracts and 20th century thinking and culture. It's not skill that's keeping you employed, I promise you that." Yes, we've contracted out, automated, and offshored a massive amount of work so that less could be paid to workers. Where did it get us as a company and a nation? We're swimming in debt and owning a home is out of reach for many people. Blame the Unions all you want. This is the result of unbridled, short sighted corporate greed.

For me, it's very simple why I WFH on Friday. By Friday, I need to get out of the toxic workforce building I have to be in earlier in the week.

It's hard to believe but it's obvious that at&t got the majority of imbeciles in the workforce. What an accomplishment! Stankey could cut 50% of the workforce today and not miss a beat. It's like a boat anchor around at&t's neck!

Thanks for your advise? You ever notice that people that really work hard don’t have to tell you they work hard. He’s so busy that he’s watching this board every 5 minutes.

The amount of ignorance on this board is ludicrous. Always has been. And to think that most of the commenters are AT&T employees is even more sad. I was in the office Tues, Wed and yesterday. 10-12 hours each day. WFH today and was up and at it by 7:30am ET. Has been nonstop fire drills since first AM without a break. Just now getting to the admin items (SQL queries to validate defect remediation and mandatory training) I had scheduled for today. Since I'm backed up on scheduled tasks now, I'll probably be working through lunch just to stay ahead so I can get off at 5pm and enjoy my weekend.

WFH doesn't mean "No work" for most of us. We actually get more work done at home because we're not being bothered with water cooler jibber jabber all day. I haven't gotten out of my chair in front of my work pc for 4 hours expect to make a cup of coffee.

No need for your silly gaslight comments at all. Sorry if your some union drab or 1st line manager who is boots on the ground all day and you just don't like it. You chose that career path and that's part of the deal.

You don't like folks WFH, so be it, but my advise would be to just get over it.

(BTW, yes I know people can and do work at home just as well, if not better. Just a joke, guys.)
