Rumours are running rampant about workforce reductions coming soon to GDS in Ontario. There are so many different stories it’s hard to know what’s real. Packages (voluntary or forced) cuts, not filling vacancies. As someone who doesn’t have a lot of years in (12) but is on the older side, this is getting rather worrisome to say the least. Does anyone know what’s actually coming and when? Thanks.

Reduction coming in 2024. Contractors are not getting renewal in 2024. Many new job postings for GDS are Temporary only.
Expectation would be voluntary reductions primarily.
I’ve heard nothing of the sort. These rumours are always there. Every quarter they come out - and it’s probably escalating due to the pending merger.
I don’t suspect dominion merger will affect core utility operations - mainly due to OEB vs American regulators.
If you are in finance, HR, or IT then could be affected. That’s always been the case though - those groups are a revolving door of people. Don’t expect too much stability there.
I don’t expect any layoffs. GDS is a skeleton crew as it is, patched together with collection of poor partners doing the actual work. Cutting more would have disastrous results as we are already being throttled by our regulator and have extreme poor brand recognition due to years of poor customer experience.
I can’t think our execs would be that stupid to cut further
