Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

Why you should give no 2 week notice

Given the lack of communication by the org, poor leadership and high probability of layoffs every other day you should give no notice when you land your next job. There is a chance you will be laid off and receive severance so why chance during a two week notice?

The burn bridges mantra is a joke. These people don't think past the next 30 seconds. Stand up for yourself period. You have to live with yourself and bootlicking never pays off. The lower structure always breaks their tools and they will do it for any or no reason at all. Sometimes to demonstrate to others. You are 100% replaceable but your pride and self respect leads to a loss of confidence from everyone around you. If you don't you'll have nightmares and regret it for life. Those bridge you don't burn will carry nowhere and they bully will not respect negating your attempt to not burn the bridge. It's a d-mb concept and is tool of control for the weak minded or hbbters

“I've regretted every time I didn't stand up for myself against a bully, abuser, or unfair treatment.”

You want things to be one way but it’s another. That’s most of banking. Do what’s best for you which is to not to burn bridges.

Why not 3 or 1 week notice? It's all about context. Megacorp doesn't need any notice. You are ultra replaceable and they just don't care. You disadvantage yourself and give away income. Trust me there is no they gave 2 weeks notice tick mark in the file nor does rehireability depend on it.

Do not stop doing good just because others are not. Provide a two weeks notice but be prepared that it may be your last day if you do so. That’s at any company.

2 week notice. That's the good Ole days. In the modern Era it's no notice. You just stop showing up.

I gave Truist a 2 week notice and they terminated me the same day. Do not do it.

I've regretted every time I didn't stand up for myself against a bully, abuser, or unfair treatment.

People suggesting a 2 week notice has anything do with integrity are delusional and well trained drones. The bank will go on just fine without you. If necessary, somebody else will take your job tomorrow. Compare that with how long it takes you to find a comparable job. The powner dynamic is ridiculously lopsided but we are supposed to protect them. Facepalm.

If you have an offer take the latest start date possible. Improve the odds of getting severence. Dont tell them you have an offer and ask for a promotion, a raise, wfh privileges. Be professional in all this of course.

Short to no notice. Get the severance. It's in your best interest, you earned it, and not a revenge strategy. If you give notice, they will walk you out anyway. That's just where we are at. Whats good for goose.

My advice is everything I have ever done in anger/revenge I regretted. You are better than these guys, don’t stoop to their level. No, I would NEVER work under this leadership team at Truist again, but it doesn’t mean there couldn’t be an executive overhaul at some point.

The executives at Truist have treated us all like dirt, but don’t let it change who you are, or make you act like them. Not to sound cheesy, but if they change who you are, or make you a lesser person, they win. Don’t let them alter your morals; their management style is an aberration and not normal, even in the dog eat dog banking industry.

I’ll give you advice my professor gave me many years ago - “never burn a bridge even in anger. You never know when you will need it in the future.” People need to stop acting like children.

No one will know or care about your 2 week notice in the distant future. If you truly had good relationships with our teammates the feeling will still he there. Your team and boss may not even be around. Heck they'll probably call you for an introduction to your new co

Most places now have it in place your manager is not supposed to be contacted for references etc.. they have a number the prospective employer can call in HR and they just basically say “yes they worked here as they told you” and that’s pretty much it

What’s best for me is clearly to not burn a bridge with

  1. my teammates I may need to help me in the future get a job
  2. at a company I may need to work at in the future.

I disliked working at two other major banks before for very valid reasons. Per your advice, I’d have blacklisted myself at 3 major companies in my industry. Good luck finding utopia at any bank!

the “company won’t be around in 2 years” Sure…. If you could predict the future you wouldn’t be in this sub. That’s a fairly bold take and I think it’s clear you are not someone who has top level information.

Give your two weeks notice on the day you are actually quitting. Tell them you got a job at a competing bank. They will escort you out and not want your notice period. Problem solved.

No one in Charlotte cares if you quit Truist and don't give 2 weeks notice.... grow up. Unlike Truist, the other banks in Charlotte are here to make money for shareholders. Once you leave the Truist ship, you are not going back after you realize how other institutions are managed.

"Might want a job in 5 years" Company won't be around in 2 years.

Did they care about integrity when they mandated vaccines?
Did they care about your salary integrity when inflation hit 8%?

Do what's best for you and you only. Your teammates will survive.

Not giving a two week notice doesn't impact upper management. It only screws over my manager and teammates. Why would I want to do that?

Because if you live in a town Truist is prominent in you might end up wanting a job in 5 years there? Is this serious? We don’t work for McDonalds.
