Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RTO - another Stankey Failure

He dictated a policy without adequate data to understand the business implications. It is now shutting down quietly as large teams discover 80% of their employees won’t move. His plan assumed that percentage would be inverted.

The the new plan is to backfill in hub locations. It will be decades later if at all.

This in itself should motivate the BoD to fire him.

You could use some “woke” since your brain is asleep.

“Woke” companies are more in favor of working from home.

RTO is more in line with the past, not the present or future. Brick and mortar offices with seats In cubicles is more of a 1990s thing. The past. Get it ?

Sounds like your boss has too much free time on his hands......

My boss does a readout by employee every Friday to the whole group.

80% won’t move? No problem. They are staffing up the India hub to backfill as many jobs as needed.

I snuck out of the office and made a Costco run. Take that AT&T.

There are reports being created to 'track' employee attendance at the office. The reports look at your badge swipes. Also, VPN can be monitored. But the problem is the reports are flawed and don't count PTO as 'being in the office'. It's a bit of a mess really. And then there are some employees who show up for a few hours then leave.

RTO - no need, higher productivity at home. Communication facilities available at home with fiber to the house. Next wave of pandemic gearing up why bother.

Just try me! I think you will find RTO is no joke and no failure. I just love when someone challenges me, are you up for it?

Yes this will fail miserably, just like his last attempt to get people to move to El Segundo and Dallas a few years back. Back then they were offering Atlanta folks 30% pay raises and full relo to go to El Segundo and had an abysmal take rate. Most of the seasoned and good VPs quit or retired. I think only 7% said they would move was the rumor and that was with a big raise and relo vs lose their jobs, they chose to lose their jobs instead. Only the VPs left and non of the employees got let go, it quietly got swept under the rug.

Don’t worry, this will fail too and then we’ll have another Re-org, then another Re-org and then…well you get the point…… the clown show gets better and better every day….i changed my email from the normal “ding” to circus music…… it’s kinda funny

Whatever the current plan is there will be a new and different plan before the current plan is done. This new plan will also be replaced mid way thru with a third plan etc

Poster is talking about forced moves to a hub location, not whether you go to the office or not.

All part of the plan in which the BoD supported. Must get total HC below 100K by the end of 2025. With a reduced HC, this will make splitting off business units easier.

Shutting down quietly?

I have no seen any evidence RTO is not expected or not being enforced. What have you seen?
