Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

Anyone else?

Is anyone else struggling to be productive since the RIF/8-k announcement? I’m personally terrified and while I’ve been through this before I just feel every little thing is being scrutinized- but all the wrong things for the wrong reasons.

You're not alone; I work in the RMO and have had great difficulty sleeping, getting work done, and staying motivated. Project STAR (as management has dubbed it) has a lot of folks rightly concerned.

I was hBB&T heading in to the merger and was honestly pretty optimistic. On paper, the merger made complete sense and there seemed to be an honest effort to maintain material aspects of both heritage organizations. In my opinion, hBB&T had a very inbred culture due to the "good ole boys" club that permeated swathes of the organization and was well overdue for top to bottom change in the way business was done.

All that being said, management has clearly made many missteps over the last few years. In my opinion, they prioritized things like ESG, DEI, and messaging on culture (think we've all heard the word "care" enough for a lifetime at this point) etc. over merger integration and streamlining of the organization. Technology was rightly a priority, but they screwed that one up big time and its been holding the organization back.

The tragedy of it all is that investors have not yet recognized we don't have the right folks steering the ship. They are the ones who need to hold EL (and the board) accountable. In the meantime, these id--ts in charge will continue to sink the ship until there is nothing left.

Control what you can contro is right. Do not wait for this to happen to you. That means having a good resume. Networking. Applying for jobs daily. Maybe you get the axe and land an offer shortly thereafter making a windfall but that can only happen if you are proactive.

Struggling to see how this bank survives relying on woke leadership to "win" back customers.

I’ve been through one too. Just keep your head down, do your job and get your resume out. Control what you can control. Worrying does nothing to the enemy. Only person it hurts is you (us)

The strategic thing would be to "act your wage"/Work To Rule and put your productive energies into finding another job. But there is a mourning period to process everything.

Can't live like that. It's what they want. They need us way more than we need them. Everything will be scrutinized further even if you survive. Keep your chin up and move on each day.
