Hearing reference to quiet period, what does that mean?

To me, the term 'quiet period' refers to a time prior to announcing earnings where you cant say as much about numbers publicly without having trouble with the SEC.
A quick google tells me our next earnings report is October 19, and the typical quiet period is 4 weeks.
usually refers to End of year Change Restriction Period ...usually starts middle of second week of December until first week in January where systems are not allowed to make changes unless the get VP level approval.
If it is in refernce to now, they are talking about the retail CRP that usually lasts 3 weeks in September for the iPhone release
