Does anyone else think it’s weird how we switched to a phone system that does not work with wireless headsets? They want to keep the worker bees tied to their desks at all costs!

Not sure what you mean. AirPods work with the NICE CXOne MAX phone system (or whatever the heck it's called). Just "add a Bluetooth device" on your laptop and connect the AirPods. That's what I used when I covered the 800 phone line as Branch Overflow during the last couple integration weeks.
I also pair my AirPods to my laptop a lot for Webex/Teams meetings. I much prefer the AirPods for audio/microphone versus the echoey and loud computer speaker system. Much clearer for all parties.
I'm a Financial Consultant, so I don't normally cover the 800 line. In my day-to-day, I use my Schwab-provided iPhone with clients and pair my AirPods with it. I have my office desk phone line forwarded to my iPhone, too, so I use it exclusively.
Even if you are using wireless headphones, you can still only go, what, 30 feet away from the source (your laptop/phone)? Can't go very far. At least your laptop itself is mobile, much better than the old days when we only had desktop computers in the office and couldn't work from home.
Th current wireless headphones use insecure crypto protocols. The transmissions are encrypted using hardware implemented DES, with a 56 bit cipher. This has been cracked several times using brute force attacks. The other problem is all headsets use the sa,e DES cipher. The hardware is hard wired to use a single DES key.
My team was also only given the wired headsets, I route the phone calls through my cell phone, I’m not sitting at my desk all day with those things on.
This is not true at all.
Wireless headphones work with the Nice Phone System.
Most of my co-workers use wireless headphones.
