Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Can I use vacation/will it be paid out?

I have 100 hours of my time. Basically 2.5 weeks. I don’t want to lose this, so I’m wondering:

  1. would it be paid out to me upon final date of lay off?
  2. could I use it during the layoff period? Is it in my legal right to take the vacation during the last month?

Last summers lay off they paid out all the PTO left, not just the accrued, the entire thing, two days before our last day. Be aware, they treat it like a normal check, so if you have a regular 401K contribution, a HSA contribution, they will deposit into those like any other check, Then they take out an oddly large amount of taxes out of it. If you don't want that, then adjust your 401K contribution asap to zero or whatever you want.

I think you will only be paid for “earned” PTO

PTO is paid out. Floating Holiday is not (there might be a few states that require it). Best to use that up first.

You might also look at your sick time, if you have it. Your state might have different rules about how it works and whether it comes out of your PTO or if accumulates differently.

It will be taxed however at a higher rate, the same rate as bonus; may want to allocate the PTO pay out to HSA if you have one or to 401K - if not strapped for cash, that is; however I'm still looking into how to do that

MyTime (PTO) will be paid out. But Floating Holidays (24 hours a year I believe?) does not get paid out, so might as well use it if you haven't yet.

Highly recommend letting it bank so you can get more money on your severance payout.

It will be prorated though.

Vacation is afforded up front on a loan. As the year progresses it becomes earned.

If you are laid off, you will be entitled to your earned vacation... unused

Yes to both. I would let it be cashed in. That’s what I am doing. But up to you!
