Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Checking in on other teammates

If you “suspect” that a teammate was laid off but they didn’t mention anything to you, would you check in on them? Would that be nosy or considerate?

Trying to be nice and supportive and in the same time respectful, hence asking for guidance.

If I were in their shoes, I’d see that as nice gesture but understand everyone is different.

I'd reach out and say if you want to talk or brainstorm I am here.

Interestingly, HR messaging to leaders is to tell colleagues not to discuss because that’s the respectful way. They also don’t want leaders hosting town halls or meetings to discuss the layoffs.

I would not. I was affected and if I do not tell you or reach out, that means I would prefer to not discuss it. I have been laid off before, but this was handled very differently. This was cruel and heartbreaking. So much for heart at work.

I prefer to tread lightly, as it is an awkward subject to discuss.

On the one hand, I don't want to upset them or seem nosey, and put them on the spot; but on the other hand, I don't want them to think I do not care about them.

So I would just approach them and start a conversation by saying something like "these layoffs by CVS really su-k and I hope none of our team is affected." Then see where it goes from there. If they disclose they were affected, you are now free to discuss. If they do not tell you they were laid off, I would wait not bring it up. If they want to discuss it or let you know they were impacted, you gave them that window.

I’d reach out. I was laid off and my teammate didn’t say a word to me so far. It’s been a bit off putting.

That, and I was laid off via a script with no human emotion.

Fun times.
