Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Why are they letting people work 3 more weeks?

Seems counter to every other layoff in that corporations do.

What exactly do they expect those people to do?

Is CVS just watching their every move hoping that they do something that would violate the terms of their severance?

I just don’t understand why they expect people to keep working. Seems that could cause the company more harm than good. Leaves pinholes for data breaches, security risks, office access for hostile actors, sabotage, etc.

Many of us on digital were let go today. They turned off our laptop access already, no transition planned at all.

It’s to ensure continuity of business. Those impacted are going to be spending the majority of their last few weeks tying up loose ends and transferring knowledge to those who will need it. The incentive for them to follow through and be a willing and cooperative participant in the process is their severance package. When push comes to shove, most people facing imminent unemployment won’t want to risk losing up to months of pay at 100% salary while they seek another job.

Sounds like they are letting some people go with last working day today but actual last day will be listed as a day in October due to the WARN act requirements.

My last working day is today. But I’ve been let go from an Aetna business segment and that is pretty standard for Aetna. My separation date isn’t until the end of October

From what I have heard from some individuals getting laid off, today is their last day. So it may depend on department or role.

If I get whacked I sure hope to get a couple weeks before my last official day.

It's a sign of respect and let's people get their stuff in order a little, and hand off their work if they can be prof about it.

I've been through several layoff cycles with CVS. It pretty much always happens this time of the month with the last day being EOM. It's basically a forced 2 week notice.

If you give two weeks notice and quit, you are working in the same situation, leaving the company. So letting people work 2 or 3 more weeks is a good thing, giving people more time to explore all job options, then hitting their severance period. Obviously, work ethic is not going to be there either way. But if I get laid off, I'd like to work as many weeks as possible.

I have been laid off twice from this company. Last time (2010) I was given 30 days notice. Depends on the department. I was able to come back to a lower paying job.

Has anyone seen any WARN notices? There wasn't one in my state as of a week ago. Maybe it's a way of getting around that.

Because most likely people are in the middle of a project. They will have to wrap things up and pass on info to the team so the project can be continued after they leave.

Some states require a "safe harbor" period for transition of job responsibilities and/or business continuity purposes. I agree with your concerns.
