Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Layoffs as budgeting tool

Every year this company does these mass layoffs and every year no one seems to recall they do this every year, sometimes twice a year. Everyone is always shocked there's a layoff. Put it on your calendar. Each and every summer they lay off thousands, then again in November they do it again but on a smaller scale. It's been this way for at least 4 years now. They haven't learned how to balance the books using usual methods so they use layoffs. One would think layoffs would be reserved for severe economic conditions beyond the control of leadership, but no, it is literally the go to number one strategy for this company. don't be shocked when they do this again in November, then put it on your calendar for next summer.

How did Coram loose 3,500 and then 3,000 and nobody notice?

Easy Coram doesn't have over 6,500 people.

Made up BS

When I asked my manager if this is round 1 of (more to come)
The response was this isn't round 1.

Smaller scale stuff has been happening for a while, this round is large enough to generate a public announcement, other staff reductions may be smaller scale but they do happen.

Last summer they demolished the coram side taking out 3500 employees, then went after more in November, Just because those layoffs didn't effect you doesn't mean they didn't happen, The only difference this summer is she announced them before the fact , Usually we get blitz attacked with no warning. Before aetna we did not experience layoffs, ever, the layoffs are an aetna strategy to manage out of control budgets and we've had big layoffs yearly ever since the aetna president took over cvs .

Karen is from Aetna. This is how Aerna has always operated. I've been with them over 20 years. What's unusual is they announced it in advance. Usually it just happens. Karen announced it before the shareholders meeting and earrings report came out.

I've been here 7 years and never heard of any previous layoffs until now. Discretion and messaging make a huge difference in impact.
