Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The uncertainty of looking for a new job is easier to tolerate than this

It's not the first time I've heard that people find it easier to handle the stress of being jobless and looking for a new job rather than working here. Isn't that just sad?

I was stressed when I was told that I was getting the axe back in February. I was a manager in engineering and it was hard to hear the news. With 25+ years in the industry, I felt shattered, but I made it through just fine. My last day was on a Friday, and on Sunday I had landed a better job elsewhere with much higher pay and less stress. I used my severance and paid off all my debt. No mortgage, no car payments, no credit card debt. I know this isn’t the typical result for everyone, but being laid off from T ended up being a blessing.

I wish everyone else in this situation the very best. Your talent would be appreciated elsewhere and know your worth, because there are companies out there that will pay you what you are worth.

Been unemployed since October 2022. It's a brutal job search out there, but my severance package was good. Still the uncertainty of not having a job and the impacts it's having on family are bad. And COBRA is horrendously expensive, but at the moment it is our best option due to an ongoing serious medical condition a family member has.
Even with being unemployed and all the BS recruiters have pulled, like putting out fake job ads to make it look like their company is hiring, ghosting job seekers, being ridiculously stupid with all the cr-p they want on applications...I am STILL glad to be away from the woke, shithole of a company AT&T has become. And VERY glad to be far away from the obnoxious young female AVP I had for a boss.

I have done this before. Had a new job that same day and worked there for years. If you’ve got enough cash stored away or that F you savings sure.

Glad I’m on the mobility union side. We get $25k as severance if they chop us.

I would NEVER work here on the mgmt side. Much too brutal on the psyche.

I’m an FE in a major metro and as busy as we are, I’d still take this. Even with all of the on call bs and working outside when it’s below zero or blazing hot.

If you aren’t actively pursuing alternate employment, you are crazy! It’s always easier to find a job when you have a job. And all our days at T are numbered!

Was it a choice becoming jobless?
