Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Cuts now and then

Could someone please compare how cuts were managed before vs the way these cuts are managed now. I haven't been here for a long time but I've heard from a lot of people that it's never been more chaotic.

The sentiment amongst the masses is the company level email triggered a panic.

It was always handled by rumor and conjecture until the day it happened. Usually in November. Now it’s just sheer panic.

It’s totally chaotic. There are likely 100k people right now looking for jobs even though 95k don’t need to. And the good ones will find them. CVS handled this terribly and this could be a white paper on what not to do. Terrible.

I agree, I would rather not be warned. The way they are handling this is WRONG

I've been with Aetna over 20 years. They have never announced layoffs in advance like this time. There was no advance warning in the past. It just happened. Honestly I prefer it that way. It's ridiculous to panic 295k people who are not at risk of being laid off.

Layoffs are extremely common in the insurance industry. It's just part of the game. Our Director worked for Aetna years ago was laid off and now he's back...lol.

They could have notified the people impacted so they could start looking for jobs without competing with the entire company. Instead, chaos because it could be anyone. Tens of thousands of people searching for a job when they didn't need to. Everyone stressed and less productive. My department had a positive, can-do work culture because it was well-run and we were treated like we were valued. Now that's all gone.

The huge layoff last year, and the one the year before that. There was no notice. we got a call one day saying we were laid off with an end date of a couple months away. There was not even a hint of a layoff happening until we were called and laid off. I've also been here for almost 20 years.

"Usually it's a surprise huge layoff, like one day they simply lay off 5000 people with no warning. "

Been with the company many years and have never seen this happen. There has always been some notice when people get laid off. Granted, it has never been with such a massive notification and then dead silence like this. This is brutal.

It's not chaotic. Nothings happened. all that happened was everyone got an email saying in the coming weeks 5000 people would be laid off. If you take that email away , literally nothings happened. Usually it's a surprise huge layoff, like one day they simply lay off 5000 people with no warning. This time they gave everyone a heads up so you can start looking for another job now. you don't have to wait to be officially laid off to get another job. This company does big layoffs regularly. If you don't want to work for a company that does this, then it's best to get a different job.
