Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Anyone reapply after layoff?

I am sure people are thinking "Why the heck would I want to come back to Fiserv with the current culture after they just laid me off?"

But that is exactly why I am asking the question? If you did reapply for say another position, what was your mind-set and why would you think it was a good idea?

Been a burning question because when I was laided off a few months ago they told me three times by HR in the exit that if I was to take another position at Fiserv I was going to have to repay back the balance of the severance.

I know folks have different situations, but I cannot begin to imagine why I would look to come back to a place that sent me away. I can't imagine how you would ever be able to be happy or feel safe again in a role.

During the three months between my layoff notice and my final termination day, I applied for numerous openings, and actually got past the 3rd interview for a job that paid a little less than my position, and it would have required an hour commute. As luck would have it, COVID hit and that job was put on hold, so I was forced to take the RIF. I was out of work for a couple months that Summer, but ended up in a much better job in a much better city to live and work in.

From my Fiserv severance letter last year:
What happens if I receive severance pay and I am re-hired in the future?
If you are rehired by the company in any capacity prior to signing the Release of Claims, you will forfeit any severanceentitlement. Also,if you arerehiredbythecompanyaftersigningandreturningtheReleaseofClaims form, but prior to the conclusion of the time period that was the basis for the severance pay calculation, you will forfeit that portion of the severance payment covering the period afterrehire. For example: Ifyoureceive12 weeks ofseverancepayandarerehiredwithin5weeksoftheterminationdate,youwillberequiredtorepay7 weeksof severance.

If you reapply your "new salary" will be affected by your "old salary". This pretty much guarantees that you will not get market rate salary.

It has been a very long time but back in the day a few people I knew that were part of a layoff came back as a contractor. That way they could keep their severance and then were eventually converted to employees. This was long before First Data, when working at Fiserv was actually ok, not great but ok. Now it is miserable.

Several on my team were riffed and came back in new positions. Mainly because they were already doing said position and it now paid more with guarantee of being remote.

It happened occasionally before the merger. But I don't know of any after.
